Reading Horizons Last Job of Y

Reading Horizons/Lesson 41 “The last Sound of Y” When y comes at the end of a word and there is another working vowel preceding it, the y will take the sound of long e (e.g., lady; daily; baby).

Reading Horizons/Lesson 41 “The Last Sound of Y” The exception: when y comes at the end of a word and is preceded by n, f, or l, and the word is a verb, the y will say long I (e.g., deny; defy; rely).

Reading Horizons/Lesson 41 “The Last Sound of Y” When y comes in the first syllable of a multi-syllabic word and stands alone in the syllable, the y will take the long I sound (e.g., cyclone; Cyprus; Tyson).
