Science and society WHY ?

Just tell me what we have to know ! Nope! This is not that kind of lesson. As future citizens of a democracy, your votes will decide how the nation deals with questions posed by an increasingly scientific and technological world. This presentation is not going to tell you any answers. It is going to ask you to begin to think about those questions. The debate over science and Technology Throughout history people have been faced with questions driven by new scientific and technological discoveries. SCIENCE impacts society at every level. SOCIETY dictates the boundaries of science. In a democracy, every citizen has a voice in determining that interaction. SOON YOU WILL HELP MAKE THE DECISIONS….. Impressive!! But, as with all major scientific or technological advances, it raises some questions. - Can a blind person use it - alone ? - Could a child under 16 use it – alone ? - If there is an accident, who is responsible ? - the owner ? - the car maker ? - the computer programmer ? Can you think of other possible issues……….. Link doesn’t work, but I think I’ve seen this one before…the car that is summoned from the parking lot? It is the role of Science to present new iDeas and techniques For example, for the first time, scientists can make specific changes to the genetic code of a human being https://www.youtube.com/watch ?v=EVTCJElk_lA Doudna’s lab website uses all caps. Your turn is coming Science and technology WILL continue to advance. YOU will have to make the decisions that will determine how your society deals with scientific and technological change. You will have a lot to decide To make those decisions, you will need to think about many things. What determines how a society reacts to scientific and technological change? How are science and technology impacted by society? What does history show about the impact scientific discoveries have had on a society ? You have some stray underlines. Usually when you do bullets, you align left.
