What is Racism? Discrimination against someone because : Ethnicity Religion Skin color Aboriginal

History of Racism in Australia People argue that others can be divided into certain groups Baron Georges Cuvier, a French anatomist, made matters worst by creating three groups of superiority( Whites placed on top, blacks on bottom) Some scientists say that there are no differences between both skin colors, while others say there are Scientists say that black people have lower average intelligence than white people( true)

Types of Racism Verbal- insults and bad words to them and their country Physical- beating up, shoving, rape, and occasionally riots.

Why do Indians and Lebanese go to Australia? VISA is much more easier to get than other countries Many jobs available to them

Racism towards Aboriginals Aboriginal Australians lived for 50,000 years Lived as hunters and gatherers Never greedy as the way they lived was to preserve resources Didn’t need any complex things( technology) Sudden events required cooperation and sharing Complicating culture, with own languages, religions, arts, and traditions

Frontier Wars Took place in 1950 Europeans fighting with Aboriginals for Australia Aboriginals soon were overpowered by European’s new weopons 80 percent aboriginals killed Rest of Aboriginals used as slaves for Europeans

Pauline Hanson “One Nation” Was in Australian Federal Parliament Said multicultural countries can never be strong Said how she feared Australians are swamped with Asians Also said how Africans bring diseases

Racism in Australia Timeline Racism documented since arrival of Europeans in 1788 Chinese started to come to Australia in 1860 ‘Stolen Generation’ created in 1970 John Herron, Aboriginal Affairs Minister, presented report on ‘Stolen Generation’ In 2008, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, apologized about ‘Stolen Generation’

Possible Solutions Australian Government are trying their best to improve the situation Government created helpline for Indians to complaint when involved in racial act United Nation Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, asked to investigate further Public is the top source of stopping racism( if they see racial act, try their best to stop it) I would create support groups to comfort people that are hurt A complaint box where people can write down what happened, so that we can try our best to help Toll free number so people can call and complain
