Criteria

Social Security Act The Social Security Act was signed by FDR on August 14, 1935. The Act responded to the negatives of old age, poverty, unemployment, and dependent widows and fatherless children, benefits to retirees and the unemployed, as well as a lump-sum at death Gave money to states for aid to dependent children, established unemployment insurance through payroll deduction, set up old-age pensions for retirees. Effect: It has helped million of the elderly, children and has become an inseparable part of our way of life. No candidate can be elected advocating the repeal of the Social Security Act Purpose: reform It is a reform effort because it shifted money to the elderly and children. Also, people had to now contribute through their payroll taxes. It reformed the tax code and how we deal with the untouchables in our society. We do not forget them. I guess you could say it is relief for the those who fit into its category.
