Rivers Canoes Keelboats – Large amounts of Supplies and Troops Steamboats were used on the Arkansas and Red River First Steamboats were named – Scioto and Velocipede traveled to Fort Gibson in 1827.

Santa Fe Trail gold rush – 4-6 months horseback or Wagons Started in Independence, Missouri The Cimarron Route – 60 miles shorter or 10 days. Less Water but went around rough Rocky Mountains. William Becknell – 1821 with horse and mules establish the first route. Sibley Expedition Used the Trail also for transportation of Military Supplies
