Example of the storage location of the sample folder Attention The demonstration uses sample data installed on your PC along with AIST-MeRAM. So, even if you don’t have any data at hand, you can start risk assessment with AIST-MeRAM. As shown below, sample data are normally stored in the folder of your choice. e.g. Computer -> Local Disk (C:) -> Program Files (x86) -> AIST-MeRAM_ENG -> SAMPLEDATA Example of the storage location of the sample folder

Demonstration of Detailed Assessment Using AIST-MeRAM Risk Assessment by Detail Mode Exposure Assessment Hazard Assessment Risk Characterization Risk Management Practice: Repeat the steps following the handouts and sample data

Detailed Assessment Exposure Assessment Hazard Assessment Risk 2012/8/31 Exposure Assessment Hazard Assessment Risk Assessment Risk Management TierⅠof Primary Risk Assessment Detailed Assessment of Exposure Concentration

Detailed Assessment (exposure assessment) Step 1/12 2012/8/31 Detailed Assessment (exposure assessment) Step 1/12 Select “Detailed Assessment” mode. Select “Create New File” select “Exposure Assessment”.

Detailed Assessment (exposure assessment) Step 2/12 Check this box to display a list of previously-assessed substances for reassessment. Check this box for assessment of existing substances using toxicity data contained in the tool. Select a target substance from the “Search Results List”. Search box can be used for partial name/number match.

Detailed Assessment (exposure assessment) Step 3/12 2012/8/31 Detailed Assessment (exposure assessment) Step 3/12 Select an assessment method.

Detailed Assessment (exposure assessment) Step 4/12 2012/8/31 Detailed Assessment (exposure assessment) Step 4/12 Select “estimate an emission amount” Use your own data (estimated or measured) OR Use PRTR data

Detailed Assessment (exposure assessment) Step 5/12 2012/8/31 Detailed Assessment (exposure assessment) Step 5/12 Enter the title of emission factor you want to register. If use categories are not defined in CSCL (e.g. cosmetics), you can specify emission factor. OR Select this option to define your own emission factors using Japanese CSCL emission factors as template

Detailed Assessment (exposure assessment) Step 6/12 Register emission factors for each stage using CSCL data sets as templates. < Manufacturing stage > < Formulation stage > < Industrial use stage > < Household/Commercial use stage > Register your own Removal rate of sewage treatment plant

Detailed Assessment (exposure assessment) Step 7/12 Upload a list of CSCL notification information for detailed assessment. The list is normally stored in “Programs Files (X86)” -> “AIST-MeRAM_ENG” -> “SAMPLE” on C drive.

Detailed Assessment (exposure assessment) Step 8/12 List of uploaded information

Detailed Assessment (exposure assessment) Step 9/12 2012/8/31 Detailed Assessment (exposure assessment) Step 9/12 Enter physical property data. If the target substance is designated as a PRTR substance under the Japanese law, its physical property data is automatically displayed.

Detailed Assessment (exposure assessment) Step 10/12 2012/8/31 Detailed Assessment (exposure assessment) Step 10/12 If you don’t have environmental parameters, you can use the default data contained in the tool. Check this box if you know the river flow. The tool will estimate exposure concentration in the real environment.

Detailed Assessment (exposure assessment) Step 11/12 2012/8/31 Detailed Assessment (exposure assessment) Step 11/12 Check assessment settings. To change settings, click the “Back” button or select an appropriate menu in the upper left window.
