Mandate CLARIFY ORGANISATIONAL MANDATE STEP 2. Definition: A description of what an organisation must do and is permitted to do by the legitimate higher authority Mandate Slide # 18

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MANDATE AND MISSION ASPECT COMPARED MANDATE MISSION Source Given by the authorities who established the organisation (specified from outside) Developed by the people who work in the organisation. Focus What the organisation must do? What the organisation wishes to do within and beyond its mandate Slide # 20

Mission Elements Refers to what the organisation wishes to do and become, within and beyond its mandate. 1. Organisational Purpose Why it exists External Focus 2. Stakeholders Identify stakeholder expectations 3. Goals What the organisation aspires to become within a specified period 4. Core Values Beliefs about what is desirable and makes us distinctive and unique Slide # 21

Who are the stakeholders of your institute? A Stakeholder is defined as any person, group, or organisation that can place a claim on an institute's attention, resources, or outputs, or is affected by the outputs. Who are the stakeholders of your institute? Slide # 22

WRITE OBJECTIVE STATEMENTS Questions to be asked while specifying each objective What will be done? Who will do it? How will it be done? (The Ways) When will it be done? Where will it be done? What are the resources required? How well should it be done? (Indicators of Success) Slide # 23

DEVELOP WORK PLAN AND ACTION PLANS STEP 7. DEVELOP WORK PLAN AND ACTION PLANS 1. WORK PLAN FOR EACH THRUST AREA A Work Plan is a visual chart that shows the list of Projects related to each of the goals in a Thrust area and indicates the time frame for each Project. The Work Plan is similar to a Gantt Chart 2. ACTION PLAN FOR EACH PROJECT An action plan lists the tasks to complete a Project. For each Project it specifies who will do it, how it will be done, when it will be done and what resources are needed to carry it out. It includes indicators of success. Slide # 24
