Healthy Lifestyles - Marshfield Area Coalition Purpose: Promoting healthy eating and active living in Marshfield Consider other determinants of health that can be enhanced: mental health, economic development Ask the audience: “Why are we doing this work?” “What’s important to you in living a healthy lifestyle?” Key question: “Why should people care about the work we are doing?”

Getting involved with Healthy Lifestyles – Marshfield Area Coalition

Overview Healthy Lifestyles Champions Healthy Lifestyles Ambassadors Committee Members Recurring Annual Events

Healthy Lifestyles Champions Champions are community members that strive to share the mission of the Healthy Lifestyles – Marshfield Area Coalition by championing HL-MAC events and programs in the Marshfield area. Healthy Lifestyles promotional materials can be shared in the workplace, group, club, organization, or any other community group. Promotion can be done via email, flier, or word of mouth.

Community Ambassadors: Community ambassadors serve as an educational community resource for healthy living and promotion of well-being. Duties include, but are not limited to: •Sharing the mission of the Healthy Lifestyles Coalition in the Marshfield area community •Holding educational events to promote active living and healthy eating •Tabling at Marshfield community events to increase awareness of the Healthy Lifestyles coalition

Join a committee: Committees meet for 1 hour per month to discuss events and programs that emphasize each subject: Physical Activity Nutrition School Wellness Community Gardens

Recurring Annual Events

(one-time per year, in spring) Local Food Expo (one-time per year, in spring) Enjoy Wisconsin-grown food What is it?: Held in the spring, an event that showcases local food from the Wisconsin/greater Midwest region. How you can be involved: Demonstrate at the expo with a cooking workshop, tabling for the Healthy Lifestyles coalition

Teach kids how to bike safely Bike Rodeo (April) Teach kids how to bike safely What is it?: A clinic to teach children bicycling skills and offer free bike checks at the Children’s Fest event held in the Spring. How you can be involved: Help facilitate bicycle instruction, perform bike checks

(Late April-Early June) Garden Buds (Late April-Early June) Help kids learn to garden! What is it?: In collaboration with the Marshfield Area Coalition for Youth (MACY) Youth Net Program, garden committee members assist students in the Youth Net program with gardening. How you can be involved: Become a student mentor in the gardens!

Bicycle Discount Program (June-August) Encourages bike riding for transportation, group rides (Win prizes!) What is it?: From June-August, local Marshfield businesses partner with the Healthy Lifestyles coalition to provide discounts for those who ride their bikes around town, promoting physical activity through biking. How you can be involved: Start a biking group and promote the program

(1st Wednesday in October) Walk to School Day (1st Wednesday in October) Hand out stickers Serve smiles Lots of hi-fives!
