Adventure International Bude May 2017 KS3 Adventure Week Year 7 Dates: Sun. May 21st to Friday May 26th 2017 St Osmund’s Middle School

Adventure International Requirements For Activities Pupils in groups of 12, with 1 Activity leader [Adv. Int. Bude], and 1 member of staff [St.O]. 2 Activities per day 1 Main activity in am and 1 in pm providing a good in depth activity experience Plus an evening activity… For Accommodation Quite large groups this year in bedrooms of 6,8,10 or 11 persons -inspected daily! En-suite bathrooms in each room Blocked all together. Teachers in rooms amongst pupils.

Medical / Diet Medical All known medical problems / concerns must be notified to school staff and the Activity centre prior to going. Please arrange a meeting to discuss any particular concerns. A detailed Medical form to be completed (handout today) Any medications required must be taken in sufficient quantities for the trip. [Inhalers, Epipens etc.] Diet Any specific requirements again must be known in advance – allergies, vegetarianism etc. Specialised diets can be catered for but need advance notice and discussion with the Centre.

Travel Arrangements Travel to and from Adventure International Bude will be by Coach [Barrys of Weymouth]. MEET AT 1.30PM SUNDAY @DRAMA STUDIO Leave school at 2.00pm on Sunday. School will be informed of our safe arrival on Sunday afternoon/evening. School will be informed of our departure time from Adventure International on the Friday [2.00] giving an approx. arrival back time [5.00]. Parent mail will be used to keep you up to date on any unforeseen emergency circumstances.

Groupings St Osmund’s Staff will decide on the 4 main activity groups of 12 with pupil preferences accommodated as far as possible. Bedroom groups [6,8,10s etc] have been decided by a consensus approach with the pupils.

What to bring….? You will need to bring: Towels and toiletries Sufficient clothes and footwear for the activities. A detailed kit list has been given out. {spares here} A pair of wet shoes is a very good idea There is a disco, fancy dress and talent night during the evenings activities therefore some fun, fancy disco gear would be good! Children should not bring any expensive/valuable items such as cameras, electronic games, mobile phones etc. in case of loss or damage. Staff will not be responsible for such items. Small games for use in bedrooms and use outside are welcome of course. MP3s etc for entertainment on bus are fine - but again at ones own risk.

Hoodies It is for a keep sake and reminder of their trip and is included in the price They are Royal Blue and come in Sizes of Large – Medium – Small Please give size before you leave Students will be able to wear them around school

Money It would be advisable to bring some spending money as there is an on site gift shop and some drinks/sweet/ games machines [pool tables etc.] Pupils are allowed off site in small groups on Thursday pm to visit the shops in the town to buy presents and gifts. £15.00 has been enough on previous trips. Any money taken should be given to your team leader/member of our staff for safe keeping. It will be released as appropriate throughout the week. Usually £2 per night. Bring coins please not notes for easy dispensing!

Insurance School pays an annual sum to Zurich Insurance to cover Educational trips. Therefore all pupils will be covered by this policy. Obviously families may have their own insurance arrangements in addition. Adventure International have extensive safety procedures and audits in place. Risk assessments are available for every activity. All instructors are properly trained with the appropriate professional bodies.

A Typical day @ Adventure International Bude . Wake up …roll call….7.15 Rise and dress. 7.30 Early morning run or swim! Breakfast around 8.15am. Morning Activity : e.g. Canoeing or Surfing Lunch plus free time Afternoon Activity : e.g. Climbing or Abseil Short break free time with Adv. Int group Tutor Supper Evening activity Quiz / disco / talent competition…. Relaxation time ……Lights out.[10.00pm]

Meals 3 full meals are provided every day Breakfast : cereals plus cooked breakfast toast etc hot drinks, fruit. Lunch : choice of hot meals plus salad buffet, pudding, fruit and drinks Supper: choice of hot meals plus salad buffet, pudding fruit and drinks.
