Gibbs High School Registration 2016-2017 School Year

Your High School Years These 4 years are the most exciting and important years that you will spend in school. You have lots of choices to make about what you study! It is important to know that the choices you make for 10th, 11th, & 12th grade will prepare you for college, careers, and/or technical school.

Registration Timeline Students will register for the 2016-2017 school year during the next 3 Advisory sessions: Friday, January 29th – Overview of the Process & Review Graduation Requirements Friday, February 5th – Transcript Review & Graduation Requirements Checklist Friday, February 12th – Complete Course Selection Sheets

Registration Timeline Since Registration will take place over a 3 week time period – Advisors will collect all materials at the end of each class. Make sure you turn in all of your materials at the end of each class. You will need them again during the next session!

TODAY: You will watch a video reviewing Knox County’s Graduation Requirements.

Why Is This Important? Remember: Everyone, in every kind of job, needs to be able to write and speak clearly, listen carefully, understand what is written and spoken, and use math effectively.

Begin Thinking About Your Course Selections… You will choose your courses for next year in two weeks! Consider taking courses in the area that you want to study in college or your future career field. Explore different career areas while your classes are FREE in high school. Don’t know what you want to do with your future?? That’s ok! You have time to figure out what interests you, what you are good at, and how those things add up to a career.

The following Special Elective applications are due to the Counseling Office by Wed., Feb 3rd Special Ed Peer Tutoring Elementary Peer Tutoring CTE Work Based Learning (replacing SOSE) Yearbook Clinicals *Failure to return completed applications by the deadline will prevent you from getting a spot in the course next year. Applications are still available in the Counseling Office.

Food For Thought… Average Yearly Income By Educational Attainment: Source: U.S. Census Bureau, 2009 data

Choose Wisely… Ask Yourself: Are the courses that I am taking preparing me for what I want to do after high school? Am I certain of my elective choices? Remember: Selections are final and schedules will not be changed unless there is an error. Also, courses are sometimes dropped or full, and an alternate may be used. Make sure you carefully consider your alternate choices!

Good Luck as you Register for Next Year! In Closing… Your Advisor, Your Teachers, and Your School Counselors are Here to Help You! Good Luck as you Register for Next Year!
