Executive Director Update May 13, 2016

2016: March-May Results and News TRAINING – New Workshop – Time Management: The HSLC’s HR Affinity Group developed parameters for a new HSLC training offering: Time Management workshop. The inaugural, pilot workshop will be delivered by Kathy Barany of Strategic Management Solutions on May 17, 2016. It is a 3-hour workshop. Sincere thanks to Make-a-Wish for providing their facility for this workshop.

2016: March-May Results and News TRAINING – New Workshop – Time Management: The workshop has been offered to all HSLC member agencies (one person per agency, to allow all agencies the opportunity to participate). Employees from a broad range of member agencies and various levels of the organizations are registered for the workshop. Feedback from the pilot will be used to tweak the training, to ensure a high value training offering. The current plan is to offer the workshop multiple times in the fall of 2016 depending on volume of demand from HSLC member agencies.

2016: March-May Results and News TRAINING –”Excellent Supervisor” Program: We have 26 people from 14 agencies participating in our Spring, 2016 offering of the “Excellent Supervisor” training at LeMoyne. The final session is May 13, 2016. Many thanks to all members who enrolled their employees in this program. “Excellent Supervisor” is budgeted to be delivered only once in 2016, in the Spring. If there is sufficient demand to fill a class of 25, we may consider offering it again in the fall. Interested member agencies please contact Loretta by June 15.

2016: March-May Results and News ADVOCACY – March 14 “Lunch and Learn”: Many thanks to Sarah Walton, co-chair of the Advocacy Committee for facilitating a “walk-through” of the “Lobbying Fact Sheet” prepared by the Advocacy Committee. Nearly 20 people attended this meeting. The fact sheet was distributed to HSLC members. Please contact Loretta if you need another copy. Many thanks to members of the Advocacy Committee members who collaborated to produce this tool.

2016: March-May Results and News ADVOCACY COMMITTEE – 2016 Candidates Forum The Advocacy Committee, in response to members’ stated needs, is planning a forum with candidates for local legislative offices in the fall of 2016. Input from members during the small group discussion at the May 13 members’ meeting will help the Advocacy Committee to structure this forum to best meet members’ needs and expectations.

2016: March-May Results and News DSRIP – “Lunch and Learns” – April 25 & May 12 : In response to members’ desire to learn more about DSRIP after the overview presentation by CNY Care Collaborative at the March 11 members meeting, the HSLC arranged a 90-minute follow-up, detailed session offered by Lauren Wetterhahn and BJ Adigun at CNY Care Collaborative on April 25 and again on May 12. Sincere thanks to CNY Care Collaborative for their collaboration with the HSLC on this opportunity for education and ongoing, interactive dialog on DSRIP.

2016: March-May Results and News HSLC 2015 MEMBER SATISFACTION SURVEY: Through SU’s Community Link program, the HSLC conducted a member satisfaction survey in early 2016, based on members’ experience with the HSLC in 2015. The survey was sent to all members. The response rate was 52%. An Executive Summary of the survey will be presented at the May 13 members’ meeting. Immediately following the summary, we will invite members to participate in a small group exercise to provide input on several priority needs identified in the survey.

2016: March-May Results and News HSLC 2017-2020 STRATEGIC PLAN : Teams of HSLC Steering Committee members have been working on key focus areas of the plan including: - Membership Growth and Retention (including programming) - Networking - Advocacy and Affinity Groups - Marketing We will invite members to provide input on several of these areas during the small group activity in the May 13 members’ meeting.

2016: March-May Results and News Executive Director Activities: On April 29, Loretta attended the “ Executive Financial Retreat” of Just the Basics Financial Literacy, an HSLC member organization. This day-long series of panel discussions provided highly useful information in a variety of financial areas that are relevant for leaders of both for-profit and nonprofit organizations. Speakers included Peggy Ogden and Gwen Webber-McLeod. Several Executive Directors of HSLC member agencies attended this event, along with a number of community entrepreneurs and other nonprofit leaders.

2016: March-May Results and News MEMBER BENEFITS AND SERVICES - Reminders: If you are not directly receiving the NYCON e-mails (generally sent by NYCON bi-weekly), please contact Loretta and she will investigate with NYCON and remedy the situation. HSLC Website – If you need your staff to access the site to post information, please contact Loretta and she will arrange this. If you are having trouble accessing the site or posting information, please alert Loretta and she will investigate and fix the problem in coordination with Joel Shaw, our contracted web designer and tech support person.

2016: March-May Results and News MEMBER BENEFITS AND SERVICES - Reminders: HSLC Website - CALENDAR – Feedback from members has made it clear that having a current, comprehensive calendar of HSLC member events is crucial for future event planning and coordination among member agencies.
