Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement Climate Change Crisis Students will watch a video in EdPuzzle and answer discussion questions on their paper. SUBSTITUTION Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement Get out a sheet of loose-leaf paper and pick up an iPad. Log into Mrs. Hines’s Symbaloo page. Click on the Environmental Science tab. Click on the Puzzle Piece icon. It will take you to the EdPuzzle Video “What is Climate Change.” http://edu.symbaloo.com/mix/environmentalscience18 5. Watch the video and answer the questions on your loose-leaf paper. Turn your paper in at the end of the class. A Climate Change Kahoot! Students will take notes on Causes of Climate Change, then play Kahoot to review key concepts of Climate Change. AUGMENTATION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with some functional improvement. Pick up a “Causes of Climate Change” handout and fill it out as we go through the PowerPoint. Pick up an iPad and sit with your group. In Safari, go to Kahoot.it and enter the game pin posted on the board https://play.kahoot.it/#/k/411ae61b-cc01-40ec-a4ef-4a4668f1a8bd 4. Enter your student nickname and wait for the teacher to start 5. Play Kahoot to review causes of climate change. This task uses: Causes of Climate Change PowerPoint Causes of Climate Change Kahoot! significant task redesign. M Causes and Effects You are going to create a presentation explaining five major causes and five major effects of climate change. MODIFICATION Technology allows for significant task redesign. Pick up a laptop Go to the SHS 9th Grade Website. Click on “Library.” Click on “Databases for Research.” Click on “GALE Group.” Use the GALE database to search for images related to the causes and effects of climate change. Create a PowerPoint outlining 5 causes/5 effects, with a minimum of 10 slides. Present your PowerPoint to the class. Take notes during your classmate’s presentations and be prepared to discuss. This task uses: Laptops GALE Research Database PowerPoint Learning Objective(s): Analyze the consequences of changes in selected divisions of the biosphere (e.g., ozone depletion, global warming, acid rain) (SE-H-A5) (SE-H-A7) TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/email: Kala Hines/ kala.hines@cpsb.org School: SHS 9th Grade Louisiana State Standard: Analyze the consequences of changes in selected divisions of the biosphere (e.g., ozone depletion, global warming, acid rain) (SE-H-A5) (SE-H-A7) Grade Level/Subject: 9th/Environmental Science Special Directions/Considerations: Activity Evaluation: Prerequisites for students: Climate Change lessons

Renewable Resources Commercial Students will research renewable energy sources and use Tellegami to create a commercial promoting the energy source that would be most useful to our area. REDEFINITION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable. Pick up an iPad. Go to the SHS 9th Grade website, go to “Library,” “Renewable Resources.” Research renewable resources and take notes on the following: Startup Costs Pro’s and Con’s Problems with this resource Future Sustainability 4. Analyze your findings, and decide which resource you think would be most beneficial to Southwest Louisiana. 5. Write one paragraph defending your resource, citing evidence from your research. (minimum 5 sentences) 6. Use the Tellegami app to record yourself reading your paragraph, as if you were filming a commercial to promote its use in our area. 7. Save your Tellegami to your iPad and write down your name and iPad number on the log sheet. This task uses: iPads Renewable Resources websites Tellegami app Learning Objective(s): Evaluate whether a resource is renewable by analyzing its relative regeneration time (SE-H-B1) Cite examples of scientific advances and emerging technologies and how they affect society (e.g., MRI, DNA in forensics) (SI-H-B3) TEACHER NOTES: Teacher’s name/email: Kala Hines/kala.hines@cpsb.org School: SHS 9th Grade Louisiana State Standard: Evaluate whether a resource is renewable by analyzing its relative regeneration time (SE-H-B1) Grade Level/Subject: 9th/Environmental Science Special Directions/Considerations: none Activity Evaluation: Prerequisites for students:
