KING JESUS’ CORONATION

The Coronation of a King Through History a kingdom usually became vulnerable during the transition of the throne and crown to another king. A coronation time was a good opportunity for insurrections by rebellious people who wanted to overthrown the new king. The coronation of Christ as the King of the Jews was prophesied by King David in Psalm 2.

PSALM 2 The Psalm presents 3 stanzas where God and the Son speak about a future time when the Son would be on the earth and would become the king established by God.

STRUCTURE OF THE PSALM 1st Stanza: GOD SPEAKS: 2:1-3 2nd Stanza: GOD REACTS: 2:4-6 3rd Stanza: THE SON SPEAKS: 2:7-9 4th Stanza: GOD WARNS THE KINGS: 2:10-11

Psalm 2:1-3 1st Stanza- GOD SPEAKS The PLOT is revealed  1 Why do the nations conspire        and the peoples plot in vain?  2 The kings of the earth take their stand        and the rulers gather together        against the LORD        and against his Anointed One.  3 "Let us break their chains," they say,        "and throw off their fetters."

1st Stanza- GOD SPEAKS: THE PLOT Psalm 2 1st Stanza- GOD SPEAKS: THE PLOT  God reveals the plot that would be put together by the kings and peoples of the earth against His Anointed One, Christ Jesus. God states that the plot will be against His Son and against Him too. The plot is against God’s rule over the world through His Word and His statutes, which the peoples and kings call “chains” and “shackles”. God knows all and all things, even the plots of kings, are revealed before Him. It will be in vain any plot organized by kings and peoples against God’s Anointed One.

God’s reaction about the Plot Psalm 2:4-6 2nd Stanza- GOD REACTS God’s reaction about the Plot    4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs;        the Lord scoffs at them.  5 Then he rebukes them in his anger        and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,  6 "I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill.“

GOD REACTS The first thing God does is LAUGHING. Then He scoffs at them Then He rebukes them and terrifies them with a shocking declaration for them: "I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill.“ It will be in vain any plot against the establishment of God’s kingdom and God’s King on Zion. God has already installed Christ as the King. Nothing, no plot, can stop it. It is already decreed by God.

3rd Stanza- THE SON SPEAKS Psalm 2:7-9 3rd Stanza- THE SON SPEAKS The SON’s declaration  7 I will proclaim the decree of the LORD: He said to me, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father.  8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance,        the ends of the earth your possession.  9 You will rule them with an iron scepter;        you will dash them to pieces like pottery."

3rd Stanza- THE SON SPEAKS Psalm 2:7-9 3rd Stanza- THE SON SPEAKS The SON’s declaration The SON decides to proclaim the decree of the Lord to the earth. In this stanza Christ reveals the conversation He had with the Father before He came to earth. It is as if we could enter in the sanctuary room to hear their conversation. The SON reveals what the Father told Him and the promise He gave Him: to DEFEAT His enemies and to inherit the nations that belong to the Father. Because Christ is the SON He will inherit what belongs to His Father: the nations of the earth.

4th Stanza- GOD WARNS THE KINGS Psalm 2:10-12 4th Stanza- GOD WARNS THE KINGS GOD’S WARNINGS  10 Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth.  11 Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry        and you be destroyed in your way,        for his wrath can flare up in a moment.        Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

4th Stanza- GOD WARNS THE KINGS Psalm 2:10-12 4th Stanza- GOD WARNS THE KINGS GOD’S WARNINGS God warns the kings and rulers of the earth to be wise and serve the Lord with fear and trembling, because the SON will rule for sure. God warns them that the SON will rule absolute over all the earth and the kings and rulers of the earth have no other option but to submit to this King sent by God and serve and worship Him, before the day of His wrath arrives. Those who seek refuge in the King, will be blessed.
