CLOUD-INSPIRED INFRASTRUCTURE NEW SERVER VALUE EXCHANGE SERVER 2016 SKYPE FOR BUSINESS 2015 SHAREPOINT SERVER 2016 USER EXPERIENCES Smart Inbox, Mobile Meetings, Next-Gen Portals CLOUD-INSPIRED INFRASTRUCTURE Cloud-inspired infrastructure, Hybrid enhancements, Performance & reliability Slide Objectives: Introduce Server Updates The past year has seen rapid advances in the Office clients; we’re excited to see Office 2016 launch for Windows, it’s perfect for Windows 10 and rounds out a substantial year of client updates across Windows, not only with the full desktop apps, but with Office Mobile, as well as Office 2016 for Macintosh and new apps across iOS and Android. In addition to client releases we have also been hard at work focused on delivering updates to our on-premises servers. Our commercial customers are adopting the cloud rapidly, but for many customers a staggered roll out or hybrid approach is required and as such we are pleased to release a new set of on-premises servers, which will remain in main stream support through 2020. Exchange, Skype and SharePoint will all see new server releases. We have been focused on three main areas across the servers: User Experience: ensuring we continue to strive make productivity friction free across workloads and evolving to meet how people work today and tomorrow Cloud inspired infrastructure: as a result of running Office 365 across the globe at massive scale we have learnt a great deal about how to evolve our on-premises servers to be ever more reliable and also to take advantage of cloud connected experiences, for example on-premises SharePoint 2016 customers will be able to tap into the power of the Office Graph in Office 365, gaining access to functionality we would not otherwise be able to deliver on-premises Security & Compliance: In line with our focus on people centric security we have continued to expand how we think about security and compliance across our servers. Data Loss Prevention (DLP) is a great example, with Exchange 2013 and Exchange Online we have been taking advantage of DLP for a while, helping to prevent data leakage and enforce policy compliance in a way that is transparent and empowering to end users. With the new server releases we are excited to see DLP rolling out to our other server workloads and also the Office 2016 client applications Let’s take a closer look at the individual server workloads and some key enhancements… SECURITY & COMPLIANCE DLP, Auditing, eDiscovery

ALWAYS EVOLVING HYBRID AND ON-PREMISES RELEASE CADENCE UNCHANGED 4/17/2018 ALWAYS EVOLVING HYBRID AND ON-PREMISES RELEASE CADENCE UNCHANGED CLOUD UPDATES ON A REGULAR, ROLLING BASIS Approximately 3 year cycle New features and value at major updates Interim Service Packs Office 2016 client and on-premises servers release starting September 2015 Monthly updates Deliver new features and value Updates, not upgrades IT Controls and insight using First Release Accelerate adoption via Success Center Slide Objective: Reinforce the cadence of online and on-premises updates. We are a mobile first, cloud first company. Our focus is on the cloud and our engineers lead with Office 365. We are making at least monthly updates to the service and have full transparency into the roadmap with the Office 365 Public Roadmap. This doesn’t negate the importance to Microsoft of hybrid scenarios and for some customers, on-premises clients and servers, we are committed to the next versions of on-premises software and anticipate these releasing in H2 2015, with these products remaining in mainstream support through 2020. Use this written statement to provide additional context for customers: “Microsoft’s vision is cloud first, mobile first and Microsoft Office 365 is at the forefront of this evolution. Enterprise IT requirements are diverse and enabling our customers and partners success in the cloud is critical. The path to the cloud for many enterprise customers is via hybrid solutions. Microsoft’s strength and expertise in delivering enterprise grade servers to run on-premises is a significant advantage for our customers and partners. Microsoft remains committed to releasing the best productivity experiences for all customers across our on-premises servers, hybrid scenarios and online services. Office 365 allows us to be more agile in our development and increases the speed with which we can bring innovation to market Since the launch of the new Office last year we have already made over one hundred updates to the service. We continue to be committed to bringing this innovation to our on-premises customers, and the current cadence of on-premises releases remains unchanged. Historically we have delivered major releases every 2-3 years, with service packs in the interim. At the SharePoint Conference in March 2014, we shared the timeline regarding the next on-premises SharePoint Server release in 2015, in addition to releasing SharePoint Server 2013 Service Pack 1, bringing advances in the service to on-premises SharePoint customers. Where possible, we will bring innovations from the service to our on-premises server products. There will be some scenarios that will remain in the cloud, due to technical or infrastructure requirements, such as Yammer and the Office Graph. On-premises deployments remain an important component of our business and we will continue to deliver on-premises servers as long as there is a customer demand. Our customer support lifecycle remains unchanged, ensuring the 2015 release for SharePoint will be in mainstream support through 2020.” Cloud updates on a regular, rolling basis Monthly updates Deliver new features and value Minimize upgrade projects IT Controls and insight using First Release Accelerate adoption via Success Center Hybrid/on-premises scenarios important Server & Client release cadence unchanged Approximately 3 year cycle New features and value at major updates Interim Service Packs Next release targeted for H2 2015 © 2014 Microsoft Corporation.
