Origin of Asian Clam The Asian Clam originally came from Southern Asia Came to America in the 19th century

How Asian Clam’s came to America The Asian Clam was first introduced to the San Francisco and Vancouver Traveled to and through Oregon in the ballast water in ships and was also used as bait. .

The current situation Current situation is bad Asian Clam is on the 100 most dangerous invaders list Inhabits a wide range of substrate types, temperature and salinity gradients and can reach population densities of more than 25,000/m2

Pictures Of Clams

Affect on the ecosystem The introduction of the Asian Clam has caused clogging of water intake pipes. Affecting power, water , and fire protection industries that are using the intake pipes

Future complications That the Asian Clams will out compete native Species such as native clams for space and food easily If action is taken soon the Asian Clam will overpopulate and become a bigger problem than it already is.

Action Plan for Asian Clam Amending the ballast water import health standard. Increasing the chances of detecting the Asian Clam if it arrives by determining P. Amurensis unwanted and notifiable; and disseminating information on the Asian Clam to the public. Increasing our under standing of the Asian Clam and how to respond to an incursion
