The Moon Ms. Stetson
What is the moon? Where do you see it?
How long does it take the moon to orbit the Earth? The moon takes about 27 days to go all the way around the Earth and return to its starting position
How far is the Moon from the Earth? It would take 130 days in a car to drive. If you have a rocket handy it would only take 13 hours to make it to the moon. The moon is 250,000 miles away from Earth
What is the surface of the moon like? The surface of the moon has many things on it such as craters, lava plains, mountains, and valleys. Scientist believe that craters were formed 3,000,000,000 to 4,500,000,000 years ago by meteors hitting the moons surface.

Moon’s Mountains
A meteor is a piece of debris in the Solar System
Why can we see the moon? The moon reflects light from the sun. We can see the moon because light from the Sun bounces off it back to the Earth.
The Sun always lights up one side of the moon The Sun always lights up one side of the moon. So that means we only see one side of the moon. It never changes. The moon appears to change shape. Does anyone know what this is called? Phases of the Moon
What is the phase of the moon? The changing shape of the bright part of the Moon that we see is called its phase.
Does anyone know how many phases of the moon there are?
