Mrs. Bryant 6th Grade Science Moon Phases: Oreo Lab Mrs. Bryant 6th Grade Science
Procedure Each pair of students will receive only 4 Oreo cookies.
Procedure 2. Separate your cookies carefully, so that ½ of the cookie has ALL of the frosting and the other ½ of the cookie has NO frosting.
Procedure 3. Use your plastic knife to scrape off the frosting from the first cookie, making a shape of the waxing crescent.
Procedure 4. You will continue using the knife to scrape off the frosting for each of the moon phases. (How will you represent the new moon?)
Procedure 5. Place the cookies in order on a paper plate and label them correctly. (Use book pg. 26 for the moon phases to help you.)
Procedure 6. Once the cookies are laid out in the correct order, you need to draw a picture of what you see on your lab sheet.
Questions & Analysis How long is one cycle of phases? Which phase happens immediately after a 3rd quarter moon? Why does the same side of the moon always face Earth?
