How do Christians pray? 19th November 2010 By the end of the lesson we will know: How Christians pray using their five senses

How do Christians pray? We will have looked at some prayer aids and thought about how they are used We will have started making links between why Christians pray and how they pray

Christians believe it is good to pray together and on their own. Where do you think would be a good place to talk to God? When would be a good time to talk to God? Christians believe that prayer is also listening to what God is saying to them. How do you think God might talk to people?

How do people Pray? What could this be a picture of instead? What else could it be? What else could it be? What could this be a picture of instead? What does this tell you about prayer?

How do people Pray. Draw a table using the following two headings How do people Pray? Draw a table using the following two headings. Make a list under each heading using the pictures to help you God can speak to us… We can speak to God…. …directly and out loud. …directly, with spoken prayer. … with silent thoughts and reflection (meditation) …with silent thoughts and reflection (meditation) …through the teachings in the bible. …with prayers we write down, or others write for us. …through the teachings of the church …through other people. …with the songs we sing.

Sight Hearing Touch Smell Taste Christians pray using all five senses… Use the pictures to help you describe how we might use our five senses to pray. Sight Hearing Touch Smell Taste

Sight Christians might light a candle to remind them that Jesus is the light of the world. Taste The bread and wine represent the body and blood of Christ so when Christians eat them they think about Jesus’ death Hearing Christians might sing and listen to hymns or say prayers out loud to praise God

Touch Christians who are Roman Catholics might use a rosary in prayer. Each bead represents part of a prayer they say to God. Smell In some church services incense is used. The smell and the smoke rise to heaven to remind Christians of their prayers rising to God

Meditation This is a kind of prayer where Christians think very deeply about God. They might concentrate on a candle flame, or part of the Bible.
