The Celebration of Faith Prayer The Celebration of Faith

Vocal Prayer Spending time with God Talk to God Listen to God Prayer is the way Christians keep a relationship going with God

Personal Prayer Private Christians often pray on their own

Communal Prayer Christians join together to pray A community prays together in mass or at prayer services Formal prayers such as The Our Father, Hail Mary and the Glory Be unite the family of God

The Rosary People pray the rosary for specific intentions It is used to focus followers on prayer Using Rosary beads helps Catholics to concentrate on their prayers

The Rosary A Rosary is a circle of beads. It has five sets of ten beads separated by single large beads. A Crucifix on a short set of five beads is attached at the top. A person praying the Rosary begins with the sign of the cross and says one Our Father, three Hail Marys and the Glory be to the Father. The beads are passed through the fingers at each prayer.

The Rosary

Our Father Jesus taught us this prayer to show our love for God. It is the model for all Christian prayer of praise, thanksgiving, petition and penitence.

Our Father Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen

Types of Prayer Praise – Praising God Thanksgiving – Thanking God Petition – Asking God for something Penitence – Saying sorry to God for wrongdoing

Meditation Meditation is a mixture of vocal and silent Prayer. The goal of Christian meditation is to focus on God and the mystery of God’s love in Jesus Christ. Through meditation Christians can feel the real presence of God.

Contemplation Contemplation is silent prayer on its own, words and thoughts are not necessary. It is regarded as the most advanced stage of prayer. It is silent communication with God that takes place deep in the human heart.

Contemplative Prayer Find a quiet place. Know that God is with you Sit upright and close your eyes Relax the body Breathe deeply Still the body, be calm and silent Still the mind, shed all thoughts and feelings Entrust yourself to God, let go Journey inward past any distracting thoughts Journey to the centre, to silence Wait and listen, God will do the rest
