Levels of Participation If your goal is to help your students prepare for and compete in regional and state competition events and maybe the national championships, there are a few minimum/mandatory requirements: Students competing at the state conference must be registered and paid members of SkillsUSA before the membership deadline, including last minute “substitute” student contestants.

Levels of Participation Students competing at the state conference must be registered and paid state conference contestants before the state conference registration deadline. Student contestants at the state and national championships must wear the official contest clothing for each contest, as described in the National Technical Standards. Failure to do so will result in a clothing deduction that will knock the student out of gold medal contention.

Levels of Participation Students contestants are asked to take the state level SkillsUSA Knowledge/PDP Test, which is used as a tie-breaker at the state conference. If a student contestant does not take the test and there is a tie, the student without the knowledge/PDP test will lose the tie-breaker.

State and National Conference Dates SkillsUSA Utah State Leadership and Skills Championships date and location: Thursday and Friday, March 23-24, 2017 (SLCC and various other locations, depending on the contest) SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference date and location: Monday through Saturday, June 19-24, 2017 (Louisville, Kentucky)

What your students would like you to know: You are the key to starting and maintaining an active chapter at your school. There are many resources available to you to help you and your school officers manage your chapter activities. Realize the value of conducting multiple events throughout the year. (Socials, service activities, fund raisers, competition events, etc.) You are not alone.

What your students would like you to know: Ask your state officers for help and assistance. Ask your school officers for help and assistance. If you have had a bad experience with a contest in the past, please don’t deny current/future students the opportunity to compete. Help us fix the issues and improve the contest. Please realize how much you are “valued” by your students.
