Readers In Training Residential– Epiphany House Friday October 21st 2016 Evening Prayer Jim Seth – Chaplain to Readers in Truro Diocese

Greeting The light and peace of Jesus Christ be with you All and also with you. The glory of the Lord has risen upon us. All Let us rejoice and sing God's praise for ever. Opening prayer Faithful one, whose word is life: come with saving power to free our praise, inspire our prayer and shape our lives for the kingdom of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Aberfan Survivors Mark 50th Anniversary of Disaster As we spend a few minutes remembering the events of Aberfan let us also bring to God all those who are digging their lives from the rubble of life’s troubles from those who are being daily bombed to those suffocating in a mountain of debt. Lord we are sorry when we do not notice or when the sheer scale of problems seems so daunting to make us inactive. Lord forgive us and help us.

Hallelujah, my Father For giving us Your Son Sending Him into the world To be given up for men Knowing we would bruise Him And smite Him from the earth Hallelujah, my Father - In His death is my birth Hallelujah, my Father -In His life is my life

May the God of all healing and forgiveness  draw us to himself,   and cleanse us from all our sins   that we may behold the glory of his Son, the Word made flesh,   Jesus Christ our Lord AMEN

Affirmation of faith We believe that God is present In the darkness before dawn; In the waiting and uncertainty where fear and courage join hands, Conflict and caring link arms, and the sun rises over barbed wire. We believe in a with-us God who sits down in our midst To share our humanity. We affirm a faith that takes us beyond the safe place: Into action, into vulnerability and into the streets. We commit ourselves to work for change And put ourselves on the line; To bear responsibility, take risks, Live powerfully and face humiliation; To stand with those on the edge; To choose life and be used by the spirit for God’s new community of hope. Amen

The reading set for this evening from Common Worship Evening Prayer: John 18:12-27 The Word of God

Responsory (R)Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and be not wise in your own sight. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your paths. (R) Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. (R)

Looking Down to Look Up!!

As our Saviour Taught us so we pray..

Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love, show us how to serve Refrain: Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love, show us how to serve the neighbours we have from you.   Kneels at the feet of his friends, silently washes their feet, master who acts as a slave to them. Refrain Neighbours are rich and poor, varied in colour and race, neighbours are near and far away. Refrain These are the ones we should serve, these are the ones we should love; all these are neighbours to us and you. Refrain   Loving puts us on our knees, serving as though we are slaves; this is the way we should live with you. Refrain Kneel at the feet of our friends, silently washing their feet;

Closing Prayers O God, make speed to save us. All:  O Lord, make haste to help us.      Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens All:  and your faithfulness to the clouds

Closing Prayers That this evening may be holy, good and peaceful: All we pray to you, O Lord. That your holy angels may lead us in the paths of peace and goodwill: All we pray to you, O Lord. That we may be pardoned and forgiven for our sins and offences: All we pray to you, O Lord. That there may be peace in your Church and for the whole world: All We pray to you, O Lord. That we may be bound together by your Holy Spirit, in communion with [N and with] all your saints, entrusting one another and all our life to Christ: All we pray to you, O Lord. Let us commend ourselves, and all for whom we pray, to the mercy and protection of God.

Let us Pray I am two beings; One is longing to serve thee utterly, And one is afraid. Response: O Lord, have compassion upon me. I am two beings; One will labour to the end, And one is….. already weary. (R) I am two beings; And one knows the suffering of the world, And one knows only their own. (R)

We pray in the words our Saviour taught us…. Our Father

Closing responses A blessing on those who are poor, Theirs is the kingdom of God. A blessing on those who mourn, They shall be comforted. A blessing on those who hunger for justice, They shall be satisfied A blessing on you those make peace, They shall be called children of God. A blessing on you those are persecuted for the cause of right, Theirs is the kingdom of Heaven. Amen

The Grace All: May the Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, The love of God And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit Be with us all Evermore, Amen
