JUSTIFICATION OF REQUIREMENTS FOR PRIMARY COLLECTION No of Houses : 1,59,628 As per G.O 101, Dated 30.4.97 (MAWS) 1 Primary Collection Team for every 250 Households

The new Solid Waste Management Rules 2016, came into force from 08.04.2016 The important points of the rules are as follows:- Rule 4:- Duties of waste generators: Every Waste generator shall,- Segregate and store the waste generated by them and handover segregated waste to waste collectors. No waste generator shall throw , burn or burry the solid waste generated by him, on streets, open public spaces outside his premises or in the drain or water bodies.

The new Solid Waste Management Rules 2016…. Duties and responsibilities of local body :- (a) Preparation of solid waste management plan (b) Arrange for door to door collection of segregated solid waste from all households (f) Collection of user fee from waste generators (g) Direct waste generators not to litter (l) Provide training on SWM to waste pickers (n) Arrangements for separate collection of streets sweepings

The new Solid Waste Management Rules 2016…. (zg) Create public awareness through I E C (i) Not to litter (ii) Minimize waste generation (iii) Reuse the waste to the extend possible (iv) Practice segregation of waste (zk) In absence of the potential of bio-mining and bio- remediation of dumpsite, it shall be scientifically capped as per landfill capping norms to prevent further damage to the environment.

Wednesday Plastic waste collection Action Taken to ensure behavior change Primary collectors were engaged in the field to ensure Wednesday is a day for plastic waste collection in every household by getting signature from households. Individual appeal letter to all households through Postal departments about LIFT. Communication through Auto, Flex board, Media, Both print & electronics ( FM Channel ).

Wednesday Plastic waste collection.. Waste collectors (S.W) are whole heartedly involved in D 2 D In order to ensure plastic waste collection on Wednesday and moral support to S.W, the indoor and out door Staff were involved as supervisors from 6 AM itself. Jumbo bags were purchased to receive plastic waste.

Wednesday Plastic waste collection.. Bins in the tricycles were removed in order to prevent dumping of mixed waste. The unused corporation buildings were converted into dry waste collection centers. On 20.12.2016 all the Compactor & Dumper bins were emptied.

CORPORATION REQUIREMENTS FOR S W M Tirunelveli Corporation has requested to grant Rs.16.69 Crores under Solid Waste Management funds for Effective implementation of S W M rules 2016.

Action taken for Scientific disposal 5 TPD Bio- Methanisation plant is functioning (2) Scientific closure of existing waste is in near completion stage. (3) Waste to energy plant is going to be taken off.
