SABCOHA Conference, November 2008. Presentation at the SABCOHA Conference, November 2008.

Mission AAI was established to increase accountability and inspire bolder leadership in the response to the AIDS epidemic.

The problem Overall lack of accountability and leadership Lack of independent assessment tools

Part of the solution; AAI approach To fulfill our mission we rate and compare the degree to which public, private and civil society actors are fulfilling the formal agreements and promises they have made to respond to the epidemic.

Why ratings? Statistical indicators and rating mechanism proven to play a vital role in increasing leadership and accountability

How; Our position -by bringing data out of PDFs and confusing indicators and into an easy to understand, credible, format -by listening to civil society’s needs for tools to make leaders accountable and meeting these needs

Our Goals Promote greater accountability and leadership in the response to HIV/AIDS. Promote improved monitoring and evaluation, and generate more systematic and reliable data. Provide tools for more informed advocacy. Capture existing capacity in the South

Our Strategy Independence Methodological Rigor Transparency Accessibility Southern Participation; Rating Center in South Africa Continuous Improvement
