Meet the teachers Mrs Johal – Early Years and Year One Phase leader Mrs Hunjan – Year group leader and class teacher of Nursery. Miss Lodhia – Class teacher of RL. Mrs Faisal – Class teacher of RF. Mrs Ahmed – Class teacher of RA.

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum We work from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) document. Planning is done with a book focus. To develop a love for books. Activities are cross curricular and help to develop a range of skills. All parents have access to our topic web on our school website.

Areas of Learning Personal, Social and Emotional Development Communication and Language Development Literacy Mathematics. Understanding the World Physical Development Expressive Arts and Design

The Curriculum Develops the ‘whole child’. Builds on what the child already knows. Involves practical activities/structured play. In Reception, there are more formal Literacy and Mathematics tasks which are covered across the day.

Topics 1st Year Our World Lets pretend Living Things 2nd Year The Aliens are coming!

Proud Clouds/Star Moment boards Assessment We look at their individual next steps and support them with achieving their best Assessing children forms part of our everyday teaching and helps with future planning Proud Clouds/Star Moment boards A working wall for Parents and children If your child does something amazing at home (piece of work, did their zip up themselves etc), you can bring in a photo and write a caption to go with it on the paper provided and stick it up on the board with your child. Children can then discuss their achievements with their friends.

Perseverance “I can’t do it” We want children to persist at a task and not give up when they find it challenging If they are stuck we encourage them to use the resources around the classroom, think, use their imagination, keep trying, ask questions (stuck wall) If we see children persevering, they are rewarded with a Percy the Persevering Penguin stamp Collaboration We encourage children to collaborate with each other to produce end results If they are seen collaborating they are rewarded with collaboration stickers

“If the trees could talk, what do you think they would say?” Questioning Children must ask questions! This will help them to understand and extend their learning We provide activities that inspire children to ask questions about the world they live in We like to ask children open ended questions to encourage them to elaborate on their thinking and use their imaginations “If the trees could talk, what do you think they would say?”

Behaviour Management Firmly established rules, routines and expectations for behaviour. Certificates, Good to be green chart. Positive reinforcement by use of smiley face stamp and stickers.

Sharing a book Each child in Reception will receive a reading record, reading scheme book and library book. Books in Reception will be changed on a regular basis so please ensure book folders are in school at all times. The core reading scheme used is Oxford Reading Tree. The phonics scheme is Jolly phonics. Nursery children will also bring home a story book once a week to share with parents.

All reception children will learn to read the first 45 high frequency words- Homework. All reception children will learn to spell the first 45 high frequency words- Homework.

Important Information YOU MUST TELL US if someone different is collecting your child. Please be punctual, as this causes great distress for your child if they are the last one! Please ensure your child is wearing the correct uniform at all times and has a full PE kit in school. Please ensure your child is not wearing any jewellery to school. Please label all clothing. Please provide your child with a water bottle each day. Children can bring in a healthy snack. Please look at the menu for school dinners with your child so that they can make their choice independently. Talk to your child about what is in their packed lunch box so that they are not surprised! We appreciate your support in encouraging your child’s independence.

Opportunity to view the learning environment and resources. Thank you for coming.
