Integrated Performance Assessment

What is it? It is a way of assessing students on what they know, understand, and are able to do with a language. It is based on real-world scenarios It uses “authentic” or real materials It is in place of a large unit test

Why are we doing this type of assessment?

Interpretive Interpersonal Presentational There are three parts… Interpretive Interpersonal Presentational

What is on the IPA? “I Can Do” Statements (Let’s review!) 7th I CAN Statements.docx 8th I CAN Statements.docx All of these will be included in all three parts of the Integrated Performance Assessment (IPA)

Part 1: Interpretive Task Students listen to or read an authentic text and answer interpretive questions to assess comprehension. In other words… Read or Listen to something from the real world and answer question to see if you understand.

Part 2: Interpersonal Task Students engage in a oral communication about a topic that relates to the unit. In other words… You and a partner talk in Spanish as the teacher listens and evaluates you on a rubric

Part 3: Presentational Task Students engage in a presentation for the class by sharing research/ideas/opinions in Spanish.

When and How? The INTERPRETIVE task will happen TOMORROW in class. You may NOT use your notes during the task. You SHOULD review your notes (“Can Do”) for homework.

When and How? We will spend one class period preparing for the INTERPERSONAL TASK. We will spend one to two days in class on assessing the task. When you participate in the task, you may NOT use your notes. Don’t worry…we have done a speaking activity like this before in class. You did well 

When and How? We will work on the PRESENTATIONAL task for three to five days in class. We will have laptops for research and preparation. You get to choose the format of your presentation. Here’s your chance to shine! You should realllllllly prepare well because you may NOT use notes during the presentation. So practice, practice, practice!!!

Rubrics and Grading Your Grade: ONE Major Assessment Grade for the Marking Period (All 3 Tasks combined for 150 points total) worth 50% of your marking period grade.

The Packet… All of this information will be given to you in a packet with your name already on it. The packet will remain in class every day. You may not take it home with you.

How to prepare Organize your binder according to the “I Can…” statements Review school schedule vocabulary (7th grade) and food vocabulary (8th grade) to prepare for the Interpretive Task.

Interpretive Task Day Read all directions carefully. No talking or using notes. Answer all questions in English. Be sure to answer the question completely. When finished, turn in your packet and organize your binder according to “I can” statements
