(Time period) My father has been ill for many months. Use it with FOR or SINCE to talk about things that began in the past and continue to the present. Use FOR with periods of time: They have lived in their house for fifteen years. Use SINCE with a SPECIFIC time in the past. My father has been ill since last December. They are TRANSITIVE, and can take objects (nouns and pronouns) If the object is a noun, it may come before of after the phrasal verb. Don’t try to flag down other vehicles. The GERUND is a NOUN formed with the based verb + -ing Example: Speeding on the highway is dangerous. (noun) 3. You can also start using it + is (isn’t) + adjective + infinitive (to + verb) It’s dangerous to speed on the highway. It isn’t safe to speed on the highway.
