Sterilisation Of Surgical Instrument

It is essential to clean instrument as posible after use: To avoid rusting To remove soil before it can dry and harden in serration,crevices etc Washing proces should remove all particle of adhering tissue,dried blood,or accumulation of salt in serration of instrument Hand brush may be used for cleaning purpose The instrument should be free from oil and grease

Inaccessible soil or garbage can be removed by soking of instrument in water at 52c to which detergent can be added Immediately after washing, the instrument are rinsed in boiling water and then dried thoroughly while still hot If any moisture remain in instrument,they may rust on storage Lubrication or oiling of instrument should be avoided before sterilisation Presence of film of oil on instrument serve as protective barrier for organisms

Preparing instrument for steralisation: Place a layer of soft fabric in the bottom of the tray, then lay the instrument on this cloth The tray must be provided with perforated or wire mesh bottom A wire mesh is necessary for effective sterilisation All joint instrument must be open
