Project Badiliko By Jacob Alongi The Initial Plan: The Results: After 2 years the project has created 90 hubs, trained 3500 teachers. The project has proclaimed success and that it created more successor projects. Trained over 20,000 Kenyan Educators Trained over 100,000 learners making a significant contribution to the development of effective national ICT in Schools strategies in the six countries. 5 Year partnership 2 million dollars Started in 2011 Provide Digital Hubs in 6 Sub Saharan countries Was it successful? The Hubs did not set up the learners to get jobs in the computer industry, but it did teach people how to integrate the technology in their lives. Several students reported after taking the course, signing up for further education in the computer science industry. Testimonial Mr. Onyilo, Henry - University Graduate Teacher of Physics and Mathematics: “I benefited so much from the ICT Hub 2-day training. It encouraged me to go for further studies. In fact I have enrolled for Computing and Information Systems and MTAC, Mbale Campus. I also started teaching computer lessons at school to Senior 1 and Senior 2 pupils and right now they are doing end-of-term-two Computer Examinations.” What did they do? WHAT is project Badiliko? Collaborative project with the a UK group British Council and Microsoft. "Builds digital hubs at schools and community centers across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Ghana and Nigeria and provides a cascade model of professional development for teachers and school leaders.“ Project Badiliko will provide teachers and learners across Africa with the 21st Century skills they need to live and work in a global economy. The schools are upgraded with solar power and long range wifi, and are designed to be used as teaching schools for the day and by the rest of the community for a wider range of skills after school. The schools will host the digital hub and be the location of the trained teachers “To improve access and quality in education, training, and technology around the world.” In Mbale Uganda: Installed IT hub – 2 Servers – 20 Computers Trained 200 Teachers Have Teachers pass on knowledge to other teachers (Cascade Effect)
