BALANCED USE OF FERTILIZERS

Computed requirement vis-à-vis consumption ‘N’ Nutrient States Computed Requirement of ‘N’ (‘000 tonnes) Consumption of ‘N’ (‘000 tonnes) Kharif 2011 Kharif 2012 Kharif 2013 Punjab 569 694 692 637 A.P 885 988 912 1037 Computed requirement vis-à-vis consumption ‘P’ Nutrient Computed Requirement of ‘P’ (‘000 tonnes) Consumption of ‘P’ (‘000 tonnes) 123 186 195 100.28

Promotion of balanced use of fertilizers Consumption of Urea (‘N’) to be curtailed in Andhra Pradesh, Punjab Promoting Site Specific Nutrient Management (SSNM) Soil testing based application of fertilizers Use of soil fertility maps developed by IISS Bhopal Use of area specific customized fertilizers New ICT based Tool ‘Nutrient Expert’ developed by IPNI/CIMMYT for maize and wheat Convert 5% of DAP demand into SSP demand as SSP is indigenously produced and cheaper fertilizer compared to DAP. In Nutrient value, it provides extra value for Ca and S Micro-nutrients

Soil Fertility Maps Indian Institute of Soil Sciences (IISS) Bhopal has uploaded the soil fertility maps of about 170 districts of 19 major states on their website (www.iiss.nic.in/index.html) These maps show status of availability of various nutrients ‘N’, ‘P’, ‘K’ etc in terms of low, high, medium etc. INM Division is compiling the practices being adopted by various states in respect of soil tests /fertility maps based application of fertilizers

Status of Nitrogen(‘N’) Nawada, Bihar Darbhanga, Bihar

Status of Phosphorous(‘P’) Churu, Rajasthan Ganganagar, Rajasthan

Status of Potassium (‘K’) Hoshiarpur, Punjab Bathinda, Punjab

Status of Micronutrient ’Zn’ Akola, Maharashtra Nasik, Maharashtra

Status of Micronutrient ’B’ Bhiwani, Haryana Hisar, Haryana

INTEGRATED NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT Promote use of Bio-fertilizers 1. Phosphorous solublizing bio-fertilizers (PSB) Current production of bio-fertilizers as per recommended dose of bio-fertilizers (kg/hectare) can cover only 10% of total gross cropped area of our country. State Governments were requested to Start a campaign to Increase PSB coverage 2. Potash mobilizing bio-fertilizers (KMB) 3. Consortia Bio-fertilizers is also being notified in FCO Use of Organic Manures/Green Manures

FERTILIZER USE EFFICIENCY To enhance fertilizer use efficiency, Use of urea products such as neem coated urea, zincated urea, sulphur coated urea, urea briquettes etc may be promoted in place of plain urea
