Biotic vs. Abiotic Factors. Biotic Factors  Biotic factors are all the living things in an ecosystem.  Organisms that were once alive are included.
Ecology & Abiotic Factors Ecosystems Consist of living things, called organisms, and the physical place they live 12.1 Abiotic and Biotic Factors Examples:
+ Environment of a Habitat. + What is a habitat? A habitat is a place where an organism lives. We call it home. There is food, water and air in a habitat.
Ecology. The study of the interactions that take place among organisms and their environment.

ENVIRONMENT. Every organism in this earth is surrounded by a lot of things; say other organisms, plants, water, air, light, land etc. These surroundings.
Elements of Ecosystems  Biotic Factors: The living organisms in an ecosystem  plants, animals, fungi, etc.  Abiotic Factors: The non-living portions.

Abiotic vs. Biotic Survivor

The Rules! Choose one of the habitats: taiga, ocean, grassland, wetland, pond, desert, or forest * Write your habitat at the top of your paper Every group starts with 100 points – add or subtract each round according to the environmental conditions Keep track of the abiotic and biotic factors that are mentioned in the game

Round 1 An increase in atmospheric CO2 causes an increase in plants. Everyone but the desert ADD 50 POINTS.

Round 2 There has been a decrease in temperatures worldwide all living things are affected. Taiga AND Desert ADD 60 POINTS. EVERYONE ELSE SUBTRACT 20 POINTS.

Round 3 A fire spreads across the southern U.S. sending animals running and destroying plants. Forest, Taiga, Grassland SUBTRACT 50 POINTS. Desert SUBTRACT 10 POINTS.

Round 4 Global Warming has caused temperatures to steadily increase. All animals/plants, except in the desert, thrive. ADD 60 POINTS.

Round 5 Hurricane season hits extra hard this year, animals die. Ocean SUBTRACT 60 POINTS. Everyone else SUBTRACT 30 POINTS.

Round 6 The increase in sand in the soil decreases the amount of vegetation. Taiga, Grassland, and Forest SUBTRACT 50 POINTS.

Round 7 Acid rain continues for 3 days straight and wild life decreases. Ocean, Wetland, and Pond SUBTRACT 50 POINTS. Everyone else SUBTRACT 30 POINTS.

Round 8 Steady sunlight increases plant growth. ADD 40 POINTS to everyone but the desert.

Round 9 Extreme wind tears shallow rooted plants. SUBTRACT 60 POINTS Grassland, Wetland and Desert. SUBTRACT 10 POINTS Forest.

Round 10 Consistently cloudy skies kill plants. SUBTRACT 80 POINTS everyone!

THE END! Total up your points to see who wins! Turn your completed paper into the tray.
