Presentation transcript:

Welcome to Key Stage One Christ Church C E Primary School Entering a new key stage in you child’s academic life is a big step for any child to make. To help in that transition we have provided a guide to the changes your child will face in their daily routine.

CLASSES In order to accommodate a one and a half year intake we have 3 classes. These comprise of a year 1 class and two year 1 and year 2 mixed classes. Class 4 Year 1 Miss Simpson with Mrs Haynes Class 5 Year 1 & 2 Mrs Pearce with Mrs Rowe Class 6 Year 1 & 2 Mrs Tang with Mrs Biddle

Curriculum The curriculum at KS1 comprises of: English Art Maths Design and Technology Science Music Computing Physical Education Religious Education PSHE History Geography

TOPICS At the beginning of every half term you will be given a curriculum newsletter explaining what your child will be studying in every subject. We hope that you will then be able to support your child by visiting the library, using the internet and discussing topics in order to develop your child’s understanding and knowledge further of the topic being covered in class. In 2017/18 we will be ~ ‘Who rules and why?’ (Kings and Queens) ‘Remember November’ (Gunpowder Plot) ‘Who am I?’ (Our body) ‘What’s it like on the other side of the world?’ (Australia) ‘Who lives in a house like this?’ (Houses and Homes) and ‘How does it move?’ (Transport)

National Assessments Year 1 will take a Phonic Screening Check in June to assess their knowledge and application of phonics when reading a set of words. Year 2 will take SATs tests in May to assess reading comprehension, spelling grammar and punctuation, writing and mathematics.

HOMEWORK Homework is issued by your child’s class teacher. This consists of reading book, spellings, and an English and Maths activity. Reading books are sent home daily but are changed on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Other homework is sent home on Friday to be completed and returned to school the following Wednesday. We have also purchased a licence to use Mathletics and your child will be given a login so that they can complete maths activities online. Parental support is very important in completing these activities. If your child finds aspects of the homework difficult please do not hesitate to speak to us.

P.E. Kit It is important that the children wear the correct clothing for physical activities. Here is a reminder of the P.E. uniform your child should have. In the hall: navy blue shorts, school logo t-shirt. Outside: as above but in winter a tracksuit can be worn, preferably in school colours. Alternatively a sweatshirt can be worn with jogging bottoms. Shoes: a pair of clearly named pumps are required for all hall activities and trainers for outside P.E. P.E. kit is kept in school for a full half term. Please ensure that everything is clearly named.

Snack For a daily cost of 50p the children may enjoy a school snack during morning playtime. The children are offered apple juice, orange juice, water, milk and toast. You may provide your child with a healthy snack instead of this option. As part of our healthy school status children are not allowed chocolate. However, crisps are allowed as a treat on Friday.

What the children think about KS1 I loved making ‘porridges’ and jacket potatoes. I love fun days. Everyone cares for us. Maths is my favourite. Our teachers are great! We go on fun trips. I love growing plants. We like different sports. We learn new things. You get to join lots of clubs. I like iPads and Bee Bots. We love writing . I liked our Katie Morag reading cafe. I like class assemblies and Christmas plays. Science and History are great! I like designing things.
