13 Reasons Why A Novel By Jay Asher

One day Clay Jensen came home from school and found a package for him at his front door.

When Clay opens the package he finds seven cassette tapes in it When Clay opens the package he finds seven cassette tapes in it. Each tape has a number on both sides of it.

Clay finds a tape player. He puts in the tape that is labeled “1 Clay finds a tape player. He puts in the tape that is labeled “1.” he hears the voice of a girl that he used to know.

On the tape he hears the voice of one of his classmates, Hannah Baker On the tape he hears the voice of one of his classmates, Hannah Baker. Hannah committed suicide a few weeks ago.

Justin was Hannah’s first kiss.

Tape Three: Alex Standall

Alex made a “Who’s Hot and Who’s Not” list for all the girls in Hannah’s grade.

Alex said that Hannah had “the best ass in the freshman class”

Tape Four: Jessica Davis

Jessica and Hannah were both new to their high school, so their guidance counselor thought it would be good for them to be friends.

The girls also became friends with Alex Standall, because he was new to the school too.

They would meet at a café and talk about school.

All three of them would always order hot chocolate.

Then Alex stopped coming to the café.

Then Jessica stopped coming to the café. Hannah was alone.

After Alex made the “Who’s Hot and Who’s Not list Jessica told Hannah to meet her at the café.

Jessica was angry because she was on the “not” side of the list.

Jessica thought that Hannah was responsible for where her name was on the list. She got very mad, so mad that she punched Hannah at the café.

Tape Five: Tyler Down

Tyler is a peeping tom. He would take pictures of Hannah at night through her bedroom window.

She caught Tyler one night with the help of a girl named Courtney, and he stopped.

Tyler’s peeping made Hannah feel very unsafe, even in her own home.

Tape Six: Courtney Crimson

Courtney is one of the most perfect, popular girls at Hannah’s school Courtney is one of the most perfect, popular girls at Hannah’s school. Courtney cares a lot about her reputation.

Courtney helped Hannah catch Tyler Down, and she thought that they were starting to become friends.

Courtney asked Hannah to go to a party Courtney asked Hannah to go to a party. Hannah was nervous, but then said yes.

When they got to the party, Courtney got her and Hannah red cups to drink from.

Tape Seven: Marcus Cooley

Marcus and Hannah took a valentine’s day survey and got paired together.

Marcus was very late to meet Hannah, and that made her nervous.

When Marcus finally came, they sat in a booth together.

Tape Eight: Zach Dempsey

Zach and Hannah were in the same peer communications class Zach and Hannah were in the same peer communications class. This class was one were students could express themselves.

Each student in the class had a paper bag where there classmates placed notes with compliments on them.

Hannah’s bag was always empty.

She figured it out that Zack had been stealing her notes from her bag.

This made Hannah very sad This made Hannah very sad. She wanted to see the nice things her classmates were saying about her.

Tape Nine: Ryan Shaver

Hannah and Ryan both liked to write poetry, and they would share their poems with each other.

Hannah’s poetry was private, so she kept it in a journal.

Ryan stole one of Hannah’s most special poems, and published it in an anonymous school paper.

Hannah felt betrayed by Ryan. She felt like she could not trust anyone.

Tape Ten: Clay Jensen

Hannah admits that Clay was not really a reason why she committed suicide, but he was at the party the night she gave up on everyone and everything.

That party was the first night Clay and Hannah really talked.

They talked about all different things They talked about all different things. Clay made Hannah laugh a lot and she really liked that.

Hannah and Clay went into a room away form the rest of the people at the party. Hannah kissed Clay.

Tape Eleven: Justin Foley & Bryce Walker

After Clay left the room, Justin walked in with a girl that was really drunk.

Tape Twelve: Jenny Kurtz

While Jenny was driving, she hit a stop sign and knocked it over.

Later that night there was a car accident because of the knocked over stop sign. A boy died.

Tape Thirteen: Bryce Walker, again

The next weekend Courtney Crimson had a party.

Hannah did not go until late in the night when everything was coming to an end.

Hannah found Courtney and Bryce sitting in her hot tub.

Bryce took advantage of Hannah like he did to the other girl.

Hannah felt like she finally lived up to her bad reputation that night.

Tape Fourteen: Mr. Porter

Mr. Porter was Hannah’s English teacher.

Mr. Porter was someone that Hannah thought she could trust Mr. Porter was someone that Hannah thought she could trust. She tried to talk to him about killing herself.

Mr. Porter did not understand what Hannah was trying to tell him Mr. Porter did not understand what Hannah was trying to tell him. She thought that no one cared about her. Hannah decided then that she would commit suicide.

Clay’s Reaction to Hannah’s Tapes

After Clay listens to the tapes he packs them back up.

He mails them to Jenny Kurtz.
