THERE ARE TIMES WHEN ALL OF US ARE ASKED, “WIIFM THERE ARE TIMES WHEN ALL OF US ARE ASKED, “WIIFM?” WHAT DO YOU WANT THERE TO BE??? 1

UCT: What’s In It For Me??? The opportunity to be a part of a great organization Various insurance products Fraternal benefits Lots of discounts Scholarships Leadership opportunities Social activities BRIEFLY EXPLAIN. ALL OF THIS WAS COVERED IN THE M&M PROGRAM.

Let’s Talk About Leadership Opportunities UCT: What’s In It For Me??? Let’s Talk About Leadership Opportunities When you volunteer with UCT you have the opportunity to help decide what to volunteer for You have the chance to lead the project You can also participate in the decision as to how the project will be implemented You really do have the opportunity to develop leadership skills

UCT Is All About Socializing UCT: What’s In It For Me??? UCT Is All About Socializing When you volunteer with UCT there is a local council with you to help with the project It is so much more rewarding to volunteer with a group It is always more fun to volunteer with people you know Make new friends while volunteering with UCT The Local UCT Council is a ready made network of volunteers

UCT: What’s In It For Me??? But there is so much more… THERE REALLY IS SO MUCH MORE TO UCT.

UCT: What’s In It For Me??? VOLUNTEERING As I was saying there is so much more to UCT than insurance and fraternal benefits. VOLUNTEERING Volunteers are the most valuable resource for organizations like UCT Volunteers come in all walks of life UCT BUILT ON VOLUNTEERISM WITHOUT VOLUNTEERS UCT COULD NOT PROVIDE THE COMMUNITY SERVICE THAT WE DO VOLUNTEERS COME TO UCT IN MANY AGES, ETHNICITIES, AND ALL WALKS OF LIFE. EMBRACE THEM AND ENCOURAGE THEM.

UCT: What’s In It For Me??? Last year UCT members volunteered over 105,000 hr. of community service and volunteer time According to the National and Community Service Bureau the dollar value associated with the UCT hours equals more than $2.4 MM

UCT: What’s In It For Me??? So, WIIFM if I volunteer with UCT??? To paraphrase Forest Gump “Volunteering is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you will get out of it.” Satisfaction of helping UCT make a difference in your community The good feeling you will get by helping someone that really needs it Volunteering is actually good for your health SO, WHAT DO YOU WANT OUT OF UCT? DO SOMETHING THAT MATTERS IN YOUR COMMUNITY, SOMETHING THAT REALLY MAKES A DIFFERENCE. PEOPLE ALL AROUND YOU NEED HELP AT SOME TIME OR ANOTHER. IMAGINE HOW GOOD YOU WOULD FEEL HELPING THOSE THAT NEED IT. DO YOU REALIZE THAT VOLUNTEERING IS ACTUALLY GOOD FOR YOU? 8 8

How can volunteering be good for my health? UCT: What’s In It For Me??? How can volunteering be good for my health? Gets you moving The physical activity involved can be good for your health Gives you purpose Adults, especially those who have retired or lost a spouse, can find new meaning and purpose in their lives by helping others Exercises your brain SO, HOW CAN VOLUNTEERING BE GOOD FOR ME? GETS YOU OFF THE COUCH AND OUT IN THE COMMUNITY DOING WHATEVER YOU THINK WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE VOLUNTEERING CAN GIVE YOU PURPOSE. IF YOU KNOW THAT YOU HAVE SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO DO YOU ARE MORE LOKELY THAT NOT TO GET UP AND DO IT BRAIN ACTIVITY. GET IN ON THE PLANNING SO THAT YOU HAVE TO THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU AND YOUR COUNCIL CAN BE DOING TO IMPROVE SOMEONE’S SITUATION. HELPS YOU RELAX BY DOING SOMETHING YOU WANT TO DO AND DOING SOMETHING FOR SOMEONE ELSE. NOT WORRYING ABOUT YOUR IMMEDIATE SITUATION. MEDICAL STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT VOLUNTEERING CAN HELP EASE MILD DEPRESSION BY TAKING GIVING YOUR MIND SOMETHING TO CONCENTRATE ON BESIDES ME, ME, ME! 9 9

UCT: What’s In It For Me??? Helps you overcome stress Volunteering can even help overcome mild depression A key risk factor for depression is social isolation. Volunteering keeps you in regular contact with others and helps you develop a solid support system, which in turn protects you against stress and depression.

UCT: What’s In It For Me??? Volunteering can only be beneficial if you want to volunteer. With UCT: You help choose what the volunteer project is When to volunteer How much time to spend on this project Make it personal, relate to the volunteer opportunity Believe in what you are doing 2 is the magic number 2 hours per week that is YOU MUST WANT TO BE VOLUNTEERING. NOT FEELING LIKE YOU ARE FORCED TO VOLUNTEER IF YOU OR YOUR FAMILY HAS BEEN IN A SITUATION AND YOU CAN SEE A SIMILAR SITUATION IN FRONT OF YOU, YOU CAN RELATE TO THAT AND BE MORE EFFECTIVE BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE TRULY MAKING A DIFFERENCE AND BELIEVE IN WHAT YOU ARE DOING 2 HOURS A WEEK MAKES 100 HOURS PER YEAR. THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR COMMUNITY, YOUR COUNCIL AND YOURSELF. GET YOUR COUNCIL INVOLVED AND WORKING. NO ONE CAN MAKE A BIGGER DIFFERENCE ALONE THAN THEY CAN WITH THE WHOLE COUNCIL 11 11

UCT: What’s In It For Me??? Don’t go it alone, your UCT council wants to be your partner in volunteering UCT was built on the principle of helping others, we will welcome the opportunity to help you. Your UCT council wants fresh new ideas for volunteer projects. Don’t be afraid to suggest something new for the council, it is probably time to try something different.

UCT: What’s In It For Me??? So, here’s the deal: See a need – Find something that needs done or someone that needs assistance Be a “Doer,” not a “Watcher” – Being a doer means acting and not waiting for someone else to address the situation Make a plan – Decide what you want to do and how you are going to do it Gather a team – Your UCT council is ready to make this project a success

UCT: What’s In It For Me??? WIIFM??? Simply Put, EVERYTHING Now, let’s get that volunteer project started so we can all start feeling better!!!
