KINDER SCULPTURES A Lesson in 3-D problem solving by Kristin Keller

MATERIALS PRE-POURED PLASTER OF PARIS BASE WITH THREE CHENILLE RODS EACH/ONE BASE PER STUDENT PRE-CUT FOAM SHAPES PAPER PUNCH BEADS COCKTAIL STRAWS BUTTONS

Wanda Powe’s Variation For Base Using ceramic clay, have students push clay into bottom of cup and insert chenille stems on their own. Saves time on preparation and they can do this easily. Have them hold the stem close to the end and push into clay to keep wire from bending.

PUNCHING HOLES IN PRE-CUT FOAM OR PAPER SHAPES

ADDING BEADS AND TWISTS TO THE SCULPTURE

ADDING PIECES TO THE WIRE (GREAT SCIENCE LESSON ON GRAVITY…WIRES MUST STAND!)

More Variation… Students can use the small hole punch scraps or small foam shapes to decorate cup as they finish with the sculpture.
