Global Warming in the Dominican Republic Presented By: Stephanie Sabino, Elijah Astillero, Samuel Afriyie , Jason Ortiz

Dominican Republic The Dominican Republic is a tropical island which is still being developed. The economic status in the country is extremely low, most of the population are facing challenges such as, lack of fresh water, soil erosion, and pollution. Like D.R the neighboring country Haiti is also going through the same environmental issues.

Environmental Factors Mountains Lack of fresh water Many people in poverty Soil erosion Pollution

The economic status of the Dominican republic is poor. Lack of water and rain. Not as much rain and fresh water. DR runs on hydroelectricity. Their electricity system is based off internment.

Prevention to Global Warming: German Federal Ministry for the environmental (Financial) coalition for rain forest Nations

Plan Compatible Economic Development Climate Change (DECCC Plan) of the Dominican Republic 1). Reduce greenhouse gases in the cement industry and in the sector of solid waste. 2). Replace raw materials of fossil fuels + alternative materials 3). The use of hydro

Hurricane Matthew was a result from global warming affecting both Haiti and the Dominican Republic. In Haiti thousands of people had to leave their homes, hitting places where it never recovered.(http://floodlist.com/america/hurricane-matthew-causes-deaths-haiti-dominican-republic)

Effects of fossil fuel on the environment Crop losses resulted severe droughts making the country more vulnerable. According to national food security coordination from july to December 2015 agriculture dropped by 50%. In the month of May, 5 people died because of the rain flooding their villages. Due to heavy rains, rivers were overflowing, urban areas are flooding including: Santo Domingo. Over 2500 people evacuated the DR. The storms measured out to be around 11.8 inches an hour.
