Agenda What SMART is Background Main Capabilities Enhanced Features Way Ahead V-RMTC & T-RMN Delivery Planning

What SMART is SMART (Service-oriented infrastructure for MARitime Traffic tracking) increment 2: is the Italian Navy SOA Information System for the: acquisition, elaboration, and redistribution, of the maritime traffic information, acquired from a number of heterogeneous data sources. is taking over where Virtual-Regional Maritime Traffic Centre (V-RMTC), Trans-Regional Maritime Network (T-RMN) and SMART increment 1 systems have left off in providing the next spiral evolutionary step for the Italian Navy Maritime Situational Awareness (MSA)/ Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) systems: provides access to a number of different applications through a web portal.

Background Goals: seek new solutions to make V-RMTC more affective for the Communities; allow the automatic sharing of information data and services with (but not only) the T-RMN partners’ federated systems; develop a new kit of standard and tools, useful also for other initiatives: either National (SIIMS) and International (EU MARSUR and EU BLUEMASSMED).

Background Objectives: Spiral evolution; Portfolio of integrated web based solutions; Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) based technology; OpenSource software; Share MSA data, gather from various sources and forms.

Main Capabilities (1/2) SMART provides the users with the following functionalities: User rights and access control management this feature provides the functionality for creating specific profiles and associate users to them Collaboration Tools Users can exchange instant messages (IM) and start discussion threads under dedicated forums Document and Workflow Management Users can access documentation (upload/download) according to different profiles

Main Capabilities (2/2) Data acquisition and redistribution the system can acquire and redistribute data according to a number of different application protocols. System Chart starting from the acquired data, the system provides the ability to visualize the related RMP. Statistics the system provides details on the received and redistributed data as well as the mean for delving into the details of the maritime traffic domain. Smart Agents and Watchdogs these are pre-set rules according to which the system reacts with predetermined actions/alerts.

Enhanced Features (1/3) Ability to deal and manage with a number of different application protocols both in input and in output The following Input/Output formats can be managed: AIS series messages (only Input); OTH Gold; XCTC; Locator; SISTRAM. They can be acquired/redistributed via: Web-services; Socket (TCP/IP); RS232 (serial port); E-mail.

Enhanced Features (2/3) Ability to deal with data ambiguity SMART provides a static and semi-static correlation of input data; As a by-product of the synchronization process, the system evidences any incongruous result highlighting the related reasons; Provides the user with the tools to resolve ambiguities also by means of external references databases (e.g.: Lloyd’s Fairplay®, Jane’s®, etc.).

Enhanced Features (3/3) The use of Google Earth® as an alternative way to the native GIS capabilities SMART implements the capability of displaying RMP on Google Earth® as an alternative option to the native system chart SMART also provides advanced features for data display and playback

Way Ahead Finalization of the SMART interfaces in support to the EU MARSUR (currently moving from its test phase to the live) and the EU BLUEMASSMED Communities . Development of: a higher number of smart agents according to the European Union operational requirements. algorithms for achieving data correlation also under a cinematic perspective. a Cross-Domain structure for achieving the capability to operate within classified and unclassified environments trying to harmonize criteria notification type and information exchange requirements, within the different Communities (Nationally, Regionally, Globally)

V-RMTC & T-RMN delivery planning If agreed, iaw the last Meeting OWG recommendations, we are ready to: 2012 - 1 & 2Q: Provide the logon accounts for the SMART test phase on the V-RMTC Model 1 platform (https://vrmtcmodel1.marina.difesa.it). Open for all the Community, on voluntary bases. Start the sharing data trials (via the web portal or the new web services, to enhance the automatic data exchange). Open for all the Community, on voluntary bases; first of all, it should be great to start tests with the T-RMN Nations. 2012 - 3Q: Validate the new platform. SMART WMC system will be reached at the V-RMTC URL (https://vrmtc.marina.difesa.it).
