Lecture on THE QUALITY CONTROL PROCEDURE OF CUTTING DEPARTMENT IN LEATHER PRODUCTS INDUSTRY www.AssignmentPoint.com www.assignmentpoint.com

Aims and OBJECTIVES 1. To Study Various Cutting Techniques Used In Leather Products Industry 2. To Identify and Analyze Various Cutting Faults. 3. To Study Various Quality Measures To Improve The Quality In Cutting Department. 4. To Implement Various Quality Tools For The Better Yield Of Cutting Department. 5. To Draw Conclusion And Recommendation On The Basis Of My Study. www.assignmentpoint.com

These are All, those quality matters What is Quality? Quality consists of those product features which meet the needs of customer and thereby provide product satisfaction. Meet Specification Fitness for use Anything that can be improved Absence of variation Conformance to requirements These are All, those quality matters www.assignmentpoint.com

THE CONTROL OF QUALITY It means, preventing defects from happening. Quality control is a system of integrating-- Quality development Quality management Quality improvement For effective quality control, it is necessary to exercise control over the-- Input of materials & processes Employment of skilled laborers Management techniques Use of appropriate tools, equipment and machines www.assignmentpoint.com

Cutting techniques Hand Cutting Machine Cutting Various machine cutting techniques are- Die-pressed Cutting Die-less Cutting Die-Pressed Cutting Techniques include Beam Press Swing-arm Travel Head Die-less Cutting Techniques include Water-jet Projector with oscillating knife Newer technologies include NC and CNC cutting machines. Those include Multi-tool cutting Automatic cutting belt www.assignmentpoint.com

The objective of Controlling quality In cutting dept. To locate the source of bad work To have defective work corrected To prevent the production of further defective work To maintain good cutting value To minimize the unnecessary wastage To increase productivity and maximization of profit www.assignmentpoint.com

Quality control Process Of Cutting dept. Proper Selection of Cutting Materials Analysis of Cutting Value Cutting Environment Proper Selection of Man, Machine and Tools Cut-components Audit Pointing System for Cutting Department www.assignmentpoint.com

Cutting faults 1. Miscut: Check for miscut or the failure of the Cutter to split the line. Tolerance is 1/16”. 2. Matching Plies: Check the top ply with the bottom ply to see that they are the same. Compare both to a hard pattern. Tolerance is 1/8”. 3. Ragged Cutting: Check for ragged cutting according to the standards of the customer. It is a judgment defect. It is important on critical parts and if it has to be re-cut then it is a defect. 4. Notches: Check the notch location by placing the pattern over the top ply. Any critical notch missing needs to be checked 100%. Tolerance is 1/8”. 5. 10% of bundles in a cuts should be inspected www.assignmentpoint.com

Tools for quality improvement Leather quantity check Economy of leather cutting Quality audit Quality pointing for skill improvement www.assignmentpoint.com

QUALITIES OF A CUTTER Good Knowledge on the parts of the hide/skin & their suitability for cutting of components of the products. Skill on recognizing Types of leather & their suitability for making different types of leather goods. Identification of common defects & stretch of leather. Assortment of leather for various thicknesses & their suitability for various components of the product www.assignmentpoint.com

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR QUALITY CUTTING A. Before start cutting make sure: That knife or dies are sharp. The cutting block is well equalized. The pattern given corresponds to the model to be cut. The leather given corresponds to the sample. The cutting patterns are interlocking among themselves or with the cutting patterns of the same model. B. Eventually mark the defects of the skin with white chalk or pencil. www.assignmentpoint.com

D. Cut the pieces according to quality properties: C. Then sort the leather in order to cut the big sizes in the larger skins and the small sizes in the smaller skins. The results will be – Better consumption Thicker substance for the big sizes ad thinner substance for the smaller sizes which is much preferable. D. Cut the pieces according to quality properties: Quality – 1: In the best part of the skin. Quality – 2: Shanks, Bellies and Neck. Quality – 3: Waste E. Check the footage of every skin before start to cut it and divide it by the average consumption of the model to be cut. F. When work is finished it check with the aid of the control checklist. www.assignmentpoint.com

CONCLUSION To increase the productivity of any leather products industry, the cutting department is most important department. Because to prepare any type of product, quality starts from cutting department, every cutter has knowledge about quality of materials and cutting direction to make quality products. The productivity of cutting department depends on cutter. For this reason a special bonus can pay to every cutter. www.assignmentpoint.com
