RTH Exeter GTS connectivity Connections to RTHs: Melbourne, Moscow, New Delhi, Offenbach, Pretoria Rome, Tokyo, Toulouse, Washington Connections to NMCs: Brussels, Copenhagen, De Bilt, Dublin, Lisbon, Madrid, Montreal, Oslo, Reykjavik Daily traffic: Input 16 GBytes per day Output 37 GBytes per day 99.99% availability between September 2014 and August 2015. GISC Exeter WIS connectivity Backup of user subscriptions in co-operation with Météo-France. Daily traffic statistics: Ingesting 6.5GBytes of Essential data into 24hr Cache. Replicating 280Mbytes of Essential data with GISC Météo-France. Metadata catalog contains 149,000 records. Daily catalog synchronisation with GISCs: Beijing, Brasilia, Melbourne, Moscow, Offenbach Seoul, Tehran, Tokyo and Toulouse. 100% availability between September 2014 and August 2015. WIS Items of Interest Implemented basic WIS Monitoring. In September 2015, the first OpenWIS Development Conference took place at the Met Office in Exeter. Attended by experts from: Met Office Météo-France Météo-France International Korean Met Agency Australian Bureau of Meteorology. Taking part in the pilot project to synchronize GISC cache through the cloud. Exeter DCPC will be operational in December 2015. © Crown copyright Met Office

OpenWIS GISC, vGISC, DCPC, NC functions all use OpenWIS software. Non-profit, Limited liability Association to own IPR created in August 2015. Association members are GISCs: Exeter, Toulouse, Melbourne, Seoul, Washington OpenWIS will be in public GitHub repository Documentation, test cases, etc. Open Source governance: Ordinary member – annual fee, influence direction. WIS Issues All Metadata will need updating in the next year: ISO19115:2006 -> ISO19115:2013 WMO Core Metadata 1.3 -> 2.0? What strategic approach to adopt? Use WMO Core 1.1 -> Core 1.2 -> Core 1.3 as prototype? Hierarchical metadata expected by users: Is it possible to have common sets defined? Can common and specific sets be defined? User search experience needs to be improved. Performance & Quality monitoring. Possibility of standardising subscription API using PubSub (publish / subscribe pattern). © Crown copyright Met Office
