WHY DID JESUS PICK THE LIGHT ANALOGY? (Jesus as the Light) Matthew 5:13-16 WHY DID JESUS PICK THE LIGHT ANALOGY? (Jesus as the Light)

Light is a source of life. “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

Light is a source of safety. “His life is the light that shines through the darkness- and the darkness can never extinguish it.” John 1:5

Light is a source of direction. “No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed, but sets it on a lamp stand, that those who enter may see the light.” (Luke 8:16)

Now WHAT!!!

Table Discussion: 1. For each of these characteristics of light, what do you see as a parallel for your Christian walk?  Do these parallels give you a "job description" for what we should be doing?                a. What can you do to help people "see?"                b. What can you do to help people live and grow?                c. What can you do to energize people?                d. What can you do to facilitate communication between man and God?   2. List out people God has called you to be a light to; discuss specific ways you can seek to be a light to them. 3. Jesus compares his followers to salt and light (5:13-16). What do these metaphors suggest about our role in society? 4. What keeps you from making disciples? A lack of knowledge or time? Feelings of inadequacy or fear of what others will think? What keeps you from sharing your faith?
