2017 Great Colleges to Work for Survey: Main Takeaways Wednesday, September 7, 2017

Survey Administration April 2017 All full-time employees, 50 part-time faculty Will be repeating again (once) in next three years Response rate: 55% (up from 35% in 2016) Overall, average responses were slightly more negative, due to administration differences (sample vs. population) Category Response Rate (# respondents) Faculty 57% (229) PT Faculty 14% (7) Administration 67% (123) Exempt Professional Staff 48% (117) Non-Exempt Staff 57% (123) Overall 55% (599) Takeaways: Response rate, participation up in 2017; mean difference likely due to administration.

Top 3 Occurring Themes (% of responses): Appropriate Compensation and Opportunity for Advancement (30%) Mission-Driven Hiring and Resource Distribution (27%) Demonstrate Respect (21%) Takeaway: Challenges continue to center on staffing issues (pay, sufficient staff/operational support, advancement) as well as a sense of joint effort and respect.

Top 3 Occurring Themes (% of responses): Inclusion in Decision Making (48%) Model Respect for All Employees (13%) Need for Clear Definition (11%) Takeaway: Shared governance is an area of increased focus on campus, and results reflect both a desire to be included and lack of understanding around shared governance.

Top 3 Occurring Themes (% of responses): Efforts towards Enhanced Communication (31%) Changes are Superficial (17%) No Noticeable Change (15%) Takeaway: Themes from the data include not enough time has passed, concern that actions taken are superficial (Town Hall Meetings), or ineffective (YES Committee structure).
