The Soviet Union became more powerful so their goal was to be more powerful than the USA and hopefully spread communism. Soviet Union was threatening USA with nuclear weapons (COLD WAR). Both countries prepared for nuclear by building nuclear weapons and a strong military. Joseph Stalin was the leader of the Soviet Union. Soviet Union broke up into different countries in about 1985 because of financial and government problems. Berlin Wall was destroyed 1989.
