Snowflakes are tiny drops of frozen water vapor. There are seven basic forms of snowflakes, which are determined by how much water is in the air and how cold it is.

Snowflakes The 5 basic forms of snowflakes are plate, column, needle, dendrite and irregular. Most often, when we see snowflakes in art, they are Dendritic.

Types of Snowflakes Plate snowflake Needle snowflake

Types of Snowflakes Column snowflake Irregular snowflake

Types of Snowflakes Dendrite This is the most often seen snowflake It is very tree-like because a spatial dendrite snowflake looks like a star with branches.

When Snowflakes Fall

Snow storm in a Jar What we need: Glass jar Baby oil White paint Alka Seltzer

Coffee Filter Snowflakes

Frost in a Can Materials: Can Water Ice Salt Thermometer

What happened? Draw a picture of what happened. What is the temp of the water in the can? What is the temp when we add salt and ice?

Snowflakes Based on the temp that our water and ice got to, what snow flake would form at that temp?
