Helpful Hints for Interacting with the Girls Don’t just bombard the girls with reasons why they should be an engineer. Be “sneaky about STEM” make her think it’s her idea. Make sure to ask them questions about themselves. The BIG question: What do you want to be when you grow up? Find something you have in common. Ask them about their pets. Everyone has pets! This may seem controversial but it really isn’t too me: they’re at the age where it’s cool to do the exact opposite of what your saying so don’t be relentless and keep talking about how awesome stem is. Create a fun environment so they’ll think it’s there own idea. Find something you have in common so your relatable and then they’ll think “I’m like that girl, maybe I can end up like her.” Finding role models are scarce when it comes to engineering so this is key.

Doodle Bot Activity Make sure to tape your markers at equal lengths inside of the cup. Changing the placement of the battery and propeller, will change the direction your Doodle Bot will go. Do not combine another person’s battery with your battery. If done the wrong way, this could short out the circuit and burn your hand! I am so serious! It happened to me!

Rubber Band Helicopter Tips for flying your helicopter: Rotate you propeller to wind up the rubber bands More twists in the rubber band=more potential energy=higher flying helicopter Let go of the propeller first then the base of the helicopter for it to fly. Try saying “lift” while letting go of the propeller and “off” while letting go of the base to get the timing right.

Marble Roller Coaster Challenge Work in groups of 4 Use paper towel and toilet paper rolls Compete in rounds: Tallest roller coaster Most turns, loops, and zigzags
