Escaped Prisoner

Police and US Marshals are still searching for an inmate who escaped a maximum security facility in Rhode Island on New Year’s Eve. James Morales, 35, was awaiting trial on charges that he stole a stash of assault rifles and pistols from an armory in 2015. He was discovered missing from the Wyatt Correctional Center around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. He made his escape around 7 p.m. by climbing a basketball hoop in the prison yard, cutting through a barbed-wire fence with some sort of tool, and scaling a wall. He then followed train tracks to a point where he stole a car from a store parking lot. Authorities found bloody prison clothing near the scene and believe he hurt himself during his escape. The fugitive is considered dangerous and may be armed. Morales is a former Army Reservist who is also facing child rape charges.

In Other News Macy's said Wednesday it's shutting down 68 stores and cutting more than 10,000 jobs. A few stores have already been shuttered, but 63 will close down between now and mid-2017, leaving about 660 U.S. stores left open. LG unveiled on Wednesday at CES 2017 a TV so thin it looks like wallpaper. LG's new W-series TV -- the "w" stands for wallpaper -- is just a tenth of an inch think. It connects to the wall with magnetic brackets. The W was unveiled two years ago as a concept model, but it will hit stores later this year. The company said it will cost "a thousand or two" more than the OLED TV it unveiled last year, which starts at $8,000.
