The SESAM project SESAM project - Strategies to develop and to use existing counselling services aimed at promoting work related basic education in North Rhine-Westphalia - a contribution to encourage the employees in companies (10/01/2012 – 03/31/2015)

The aims of SESAM Awareness raising to the stakeholders of different branches to the issue of work related basic education Training the trainers of basic skills in work related basic education and connecting them to the existing counselling services Arranging work related basic education concepts, in collaboration with the enterprises, the existing counselling services and the trainers of work related basic education

The upgrade training course Started on 06/21/13; ended on 09/21/13 Consists of six modules The dates and the modules: 06/21/13 – 06/22/13: Module 1+2 07/12/13 – 07/13/13: Module 3+4 09/21/13 : Module 5+6 The participants: seven freelancers; working as trainers in adult education centers in North Rhine-Westphalia

The upgrade training course Module 1: basics of work related basic education Module 2: identification of needs and order clarification Module 3: developing a concept Module 4: didactics of work related basic education Module 5: learning transfer, learning provision, ensuring success Module 6: workshop solutions and options – offer development

Module 1: basics of work related basic education Our philosophy of work related basic education The starting points of work related basic education Methods to get some knowledge about the different needs of different branches

Module 2: identification of needs and order clarification In SESAM the existing counselling services are responsible to get an access to companies, so the trainers reflected their role in making acquisitions The participants learned more about the arguments that agree with the logic of the employers / in the rationale of the company identification of needs and order clarification negotiating order and conditions

Module 3: developing a concept The participants learned more about the way into the company and how to communicate with the different stakeholders They got more to know about planning and cost calculations They used the learning map method to research educational requirements and needs

Module 4: didactics of work related basic education Starting point of work related basic education are the current challenges at the work places Work place as a learning space The participants learned more about appreciative, respectful and dialogue-orientated ways and methods which be used. E.g.: the so-called IST-Method (Issues; Settings; Tasks) With this method the current challenges at the work place can be transformed in an educational concept

Module 5: learning transfer, learning provision, ensuring success A learning transfer agreement with the management and the participants has proven its value. It could be contracted in written or in verbal form. These contracts can for example include: Agreements about the learning times Financing of the learning times Probation periods and trial lessons Binding character of participation Certificate of attendance Controlling/benefit for participants and companies Responsibilities Possibilities of sanctioning

Module 6: workshop solutions and options – offer development In this last module the participants presented their own work related basic education concepts These concepts considered everything they learned from the past modules In the end all participants were certificated as a work related basic education trainer
