Five Performance Levels PARCC uses five performance levels that delineate the knowledge, skills, and practices students are able to demonstrate. Students who score a 4 or a 5 are considered on track for the next grade level. Students who score a 1, 2, or 3 may need additional support to meet expectations at the next grade level. PARCC Comparison Slides The following slides will show you how TECCS students scored on the English Language Arts section of the PARCC test. You will see per grade how TECCS compares to Jersey City Public Schools (JCPS), New Jersey, and all of the students who took the PARCC test (PARCC States). ACTION PLAN - ELA Dr. Mary McGriff, Professor-in-Residence, will continue working with staff to build skill set in Writer’s Workshop with a deeper understanding of conferencing and mini-lessons. Teachers will continue reinforcing Daily 5 routines; focus on improving student reading stamina and vocabulary skills. Dr. McGriff will train new teachers on the Daily 5 and provide follow up support including team teaching, modeling lessons, and attending common planning sessions. Ensure that all teachers are differentiating and working with small reading groups. Common planning time will be devoted to picking out major areas of weakness and reflecting on PARCC evidence statements to target instruction.

ACTION PLAN - Math Teachers in grades 5-8 will pilot the Singapore Math-based program, Math in Focus. They will receive training from Math in Focus professionals throughout the year. Our newly hired, highly experienced algebra teacher will coach K-5 teachers. A Mathematics Coach or Professor-in-Residence will coach and model lesson for our Middle School math teachers. Teachers will use PARCC Evidence Statement Analysis to differentiate instruction, guide lesson planning & pacing, and in creating assessments, which will be monitored and documented by administration throughout the year. Teacher will use performance tasks to ensure that students are using mathematical reasoning to problem solve. Teachers and administration will continue to collaborate with and learn from other schools. -This program balances visual learning, conceptual understanding, and problem solving. This program reinforces the constructivist techniques of Math in the City, which has been a school-wide initiative to implement. Our goal is to build a strong foundation by bridging the Everyday Math and Math in Focus programs, which will create a stronger transition between elementary and middle school. With this action item, we will be able to vertically analyze our program while connecting and reinforcing standards from grade to grade. During Summer Institute, teachers received training on managing a student-centered classroom from Dr. Muriel Rand, NJCU professor. Measuring Up diagnostic tests will be used by teachers to target instruction, and students will work on individual areas of weakness. Teachers will use evidence statements provided by PARCC to guide instruction and assessment to ensure we are meeting the standards. With the help of our ELA Professor-in-Residence, we saw dramatic increases in ELA scores. We believe that setting up a similar support system for our math teachers will have the same positive results

Cohort Comparisons The following slides compare how TECCS students scored in 2015 and 2016. These ARE the same students. Percentages are based ONLY on students who took the test at TECCS both years. For example, when looking at the class of 2020 (current 5th grade), we are comparing the scores of students who took the PARCC at TECCS when they were in 3rd grade and 4th grade. Cohorts are listed by the year they are graduating so that we may continue to track progress each year.
