Do Now: In order to get to the park a boy must walk 4 blocks East, then 2 blocks North and finally 1 Block West. What is his resultant displacement and direction? Solve Mathematically!

Aim: How do we calculate vectors mathematically? HW: Vectors HW

What is 5 + 8? Think about this in terms of vectors. Why is it not so straight forward? Vector Possabilities

Calculate the resultant vector using trigonometric functions. To calculate the resultant vector of a right triangle… Use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the magnitude of the vector. Use a trigonometric function…sine, cosine, tangent…to find the angle. Use N, S, E, W, N of E, etc. to describe the direction of the angle.

Problem A plane is flying west at 50 m/s and has a tailwind North at 20 m/s. Solve for the resultant velocity graphically, then mathematically.
