Becoming a Five Star Church How Mentor Leadership Fits In Greater Centennial A. M. E. Zion Church October 16, 2010 Rev. Dr. W. Darin Moore, Pastor Rev. Alyce R. Walker Johnson, Facilitator

Do everything as unto the Lord!

Excellence is NOT a policy decision. It is a mind-set, an attitude, a way of thinking and behaving. We create a mind-set of excellence in our business, our sports teams, our churches and our homes not merely by demanding excellence but by modeling excellence.

Strive for excellence in serving Five Star Concept Strive for excellence in serving others as we serve God!

Principle 1 We want to be the best that we can be, reach our potential, serve people better and glorify God. To do this, we must be intentional and perpetual.

Principle 2 Let’s practice what we preach and put thorns in our laurels.

Principle 3 Everyone on the ministry team is involved in analyzing what we do, how we do it and how we can do it better to serve people best.

Principle 4 Who are the best people for the ministry tasks, and what are the best resources that we can afford?

Principle 5 We need to discuss the Q (Quality) Factor when we plan a project, after an event and in our scheduled staff meetings.

Principle 6 Invest time and money to teach, train and retain people to develop their skills and to implement quality ministry methods.

Principle 7 The leader’s job is to buy into the concept for quality concern, cast the vision and never delegate the core value.

Principle 8 Provide a safe, secure environment to share ideas.

Principle 9 Build a team mindset to avoid departmental barriers.

Principle 10 Eliminate slogans and short term goals.

Principle 11 Avoid numerical goals.

Principle 12 Give people ownership.

Vigorously educate people. Principle 13 Vigorously educate people.

Principle 14 Head into action.

Common Themes The real goal is to glorify God I may not be there when we get there It’s not what you say but who you are and what you do People are essential to everything Modeling the values and virtues that are desirable is the only way to teach Don’t settle Only changed lives change lives

The man answered, ‘You must loved the Lord your god with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Luke 10:27
