Thank you again for attending tonight’s Budget Roadshow. We hope this meeting will be both fun and educational, and we hope you leave here not only knowing a little more than you did when you showed up, but that you can feel confident that your voice is heard on important issues facing our community. So, let’s talk about the budget. For the first time in a while we feel cautiously optimistic that we are going to have enough money this year to pay all of our bills. This is due to three factors: sales taxes are up this year, and so are property tax revenues. The third has to do with Measure S. Like Supervisor Bass said, we’ll dig in to this more in a bit, but to make sure we are all on the same page, Measure S is the local measure passed by voters last year and it places a tax on those who grow cannabis for commercial purposes. There’s an asterisk there because Measure S is the biggest unknown. We’ve never had this tax before, and as you’ll see there are a lot of variables. With that said, even if our projections come in on target, the county will have enough money this year to pay the minimums on our bills and just keep the lights on.
