Principles Character is more important than plot Is supposed to instruct or entertain The plots highlight the typical daily life Realism was against romanticism and its unfamiliar or unusual subjects Study of documented history and rational philosophy helped the rise of realism “Regional literature is fiction and poetry that focuses on the characters, dialect, customs, topography, and other features particular to a specific region.” (http://public.wsu.edu/~campbelld/amlit/lcolor.html)
